I just finished my first hard-line custom loop, and I am having an issue trying to change the backplate LED color on my FTW3 card. The only LEDs that are left on the card are the backplate LEDs since it no longer has the factory cooler. When I open settings in Precision X OC, the tabs related to LEDs are both grayed out. I just want to make my backplate LED match the rest of my LEDs in the build. If EVGA requires the cooler LEDs to be present to change the color of the backplate LED, that would be one of the stupidest decisions I have ever seen. Hopefully, it's me doing something wrong. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Which FTW3 do you have ? Which version of Precision OCX ? Since loading OCX -- have you shutdown, pulled the plug from wall, held start button 30 sec, plug it back in and restart ? OS ?

In a recent post with a Kinpin card nirvashone got his LEDs working with "used DDU, Removed/reinstalled XOC, re-seated the card"

Appreciate the replies! I have one of the white Elite versions of the FTW3, and PXOC is 6.1.16. I have shut down since installing, and I just tried the pull power and hold power button to release residual energy, and that did not help either. I am currently on Windows 10 version 1703 build 15063.608. Just tried DDU and a clean install before replying to this thread, and they are still grayed out. I'm super worried it has something to do with the fact that the other LEDs are not present. It makes no sense, but it sounds like something silly that would happen to me. lol

I appreciate the link. I will sift through that thread later today. I did not manually delete the XOC folder, but I do use Revo uninstaller when deleting programs which deletes all residual files as well as items lurking in the registry.

Uninstalled everything. DDU on the drivers and fresh "clean" install. Uninstalled PX OC, and deleted folders related. Shut down, pulled the power cord, held power button 30 seconds, and rebooted. Still grayed out in PX OC. :(

Ain't this bugger being stubborn. Try a different PCIE slot/reseat the card physically? Did it work before your current watercooling setup?

Unfortunately I can't try another slot. I would have to drain the entire loop and bend new tubing just to try a new slot. :( I don't know if it worked correctly prior to the water cooling setup because I was mid-build when it arrived, so it immediately got the water block treatment.

Hmm, can you pull the card just barely out of the slot for a minute with a fully depowered system and then re-seat? I just watched GN's teardown for the FTW3. Backplate LEDs have their own dedicated connection to the backside of the PCB. Personally I'd reach out to EVGA and see if their engineers can verify that the backplate LEDs would work independently of the cooler.

I really don't have the space to comfortably pull it out of the slot at all with this setup. I did go ahead and create a ticket with EVGA when I created this thread. If they made this card so that the backplate LEDs cannot be controlled without the cooler being present, I will legit take it out and sell it, and get something different. When I spend this much on a computer build and a video card, I'm just not willing to make sacrifices like this even though it seems minuscule, you know? I really appreciate your help nevertheless! Maybe EVGA will have some wisdom for me when they get back to me.

Well I have been going back and forth with support for two days, and after explaining to them that I no longer have the cooler on the card and it has a waterblock, they suggested that I make sure all the connections between the cooler and the PCB are plugged in. I explained that I had already said the cooler is no longer present on the card. Waiting to hear back. I'm sure they are going to say that the backplate LEDs cannot be controlled without the cooler being on it. If they could keep better stock of items or even release them relatively on time (compared to other vendors), this card would have been a hydro copper or at least had the hydro copper block, and it likely wouldn't be an issue. Back when X299 launched, I almost waited for EVGA to release their boards because I liked theirs a lot better than anyone elses. Two months later there is finally one available. I was actually planning on ending that sentence with "...there are still non available" but I checked, and holy moly- the micro is available for purchase! hahaha... It still makes me sad though.

Hmm, I noticed the hydrocopper block still has an LED on it. I think you're right in that the front LED needs to be occupied *or* they push a software update? BTW- you are not alone. <- Others with EK waterblocks with the same problem. No front cooler- no LEDs.

I appreciate that link! I had been looking for several days and couldn't string together the correct combination of words to find what I was looking for. I guess I'm stuck. I'm going to add this to my support ticket and see what EVGA has to say about it. That is the most ridiculous decision I have ever seen made... okay so maybe not the most, but close. Thanks again!!

jonmike13 Your not alone bro. I have two FTW3's and both have EK waterblocks with stock backplate being used and I can't control mine as well. They light up but only in white. in settings mine are grayed out as well. I did make a post a few weeks ago and I was told that it will be fixed in a future update.

I was waiting to hear back from support, and fully expected them to say that they would fix it in a future update, but it really worries me that it might be something that cannot be fixed by software. I suppose it could be worse. They could be stuck on some random color that didn't match anything, but it would be nice to at least be able to turn the LEDs off (without unplugging them since it would require draining the entire system) until a fix has been implemented. Sorry you are dealing with the same thing!! Hopefully they get us taken care of!

I submitted feedback and got this as a response. Thanks for your message. We have checked with our product management team and the LED controls may be contingent upon plugging an RGB connector on the front of the card. I certainly understand your frustration about the issue. Although adding a waterblock will not void your warranty, it does not guarantee that that all features will be available as the card is designed to be used in the original factory configuration. Our apologizes for any inconvenience. Emphasis mine. Y'all should keep pressing for support whether it's a software update or some sort of shunt that plugs into the now vacant LED connector. It would be disappointing that it wasn't engineered around the idea that someone may use an aftermarket cooler e.g. "Use an aftermarket cooler with EVGA and your card loses features" isn't all that appealing.

Well unfortunately guys, I'm tapping out. It is obvious that EVGA knows about this issue but is unwilling to do anything to correct it (or even admit it's an issue). I mentioned in my support ticket that someone on the forums said there was a software fix in the works, and he responded that he knew of no such fix planned. I have a buyer lined up, and I'm selling my card and block this weekend. I sent one last support message to EVGA letting them know that everyone who has installed a block on their FTW3 has the same issue and that something needs to be done to fix it. I don't see anything being done to remedy it though. It is too small of a customer base having this issue for them to spend time correcting it. :(

I'm suffering the same problem (no led control and a grey button), going to try the entire reset and reinstall this weekend. At least I have no LED light.

You guys install the newest version of pxoc?? Just came out a day or 2 ago and has a new separate window thing for leds. Basicly a whole Sep program installed with it.. test it. Quote from the page. Sync your EVGA RGB Graphics Card, CLC Cooler or Chassis together with EVGA LED SYNC, now built into EVGA Precision XOC. Version 6.2.3 https://www.evga.com/precisionxoc/

Just go in and select white. That is all I had to do.

So no fix for us with a EK water block on the FTW3 card??? My back plate light don't work period.. though with a set of RGB wide beam lighting in the case it makes that EVGA on the backplate glow in the same lighting.. haha. Cool but still bugs me.

Here is my fix After carefully removing the backplate while card installed i tested the LEDs with about 3V to check polarity and so... I decided to only connect the green LEDs for now but going to make a adapter extension cable later when i have my new case and CPU You can easyly remove the connectors by lifting the plastic nipple with a needle like dupond connectors but smaller... Dont forget to put heatshrink or tape over the loose connectors to prevent shorts! that i m going to connect to the mainboard RGB header. Hope this helps some enthusiasts or modders :)
