My new build: R5 5600X, B550 GB Aorus Pro V2, Ballistix 16 GB DDR4 3200, EVGA RTX 3060 Ti FTW3 Ultra. WD SN750 NVMe SSD 1 TB, EVGA SN 650 G5. All parts are on the QVL. The SSD is installed in the M2_CPU slot which is PCIe 4.0. I believe the drive itself is gen 3. I flashed the BIOS to f13 (latest one), cleared CMOS, restored optimized defaults. Booted with Win 10 64 bit USB 2.0 (Fat32) stick & it gets to the 4 pane window of Win 10 & hangs at that point. All parts are correctly recognized by the BIOS except for the GPU. It just says PCIex16 device. CPU freq is correct at 3.7 GHz. I haven't enabled XMP yet so the RAM (2x8) is running at 2633. CPU idle temp is 32 C. Suggestions of what to try next?

Corrupt installation on USB stick, or USB stick itself? Just an idea, but I have a hunch you already thought of that.

Thanks. I tried another stick but with same result. Both of them were made with the DL tool on the MS website. Also relocated the SSD to the M2_SB slot but it did not help.

Did you try all your usb ports? If they all produce the same issue you could install windows onto the ssd in another system, and then sysprep the drive, and then move the ssd back to your rig.

Thanks for the help. I don't have another system with an M2 slot. I have tried a couple of different USB ports. The stick flashes like it is working , but then just quits after about a minute maybe less & the screen hangs. I reformatted the better of the sticks & did a fresh install with the DL creation tool, but no luck. Also tried reseating the RAM. I will try some of the other ports. After I restored optimized defaults, the only setting I changed was to disable CSM. Other than that its running the default settings. If it doesn't get sorted tonight, I will buy another USB & give it go.

Seems the M.2 drive is not accessible WD have any drivers you can download for your M.2 ? Secure boot = ON ? Confirm NVMe support is enabled (default) Fast Boot enabled or the Ultra fast option selected ? Under SATA Support ... try changing from default to: "All SATA Devices" Your MB is different, however you might find similar settings ... even if they are called by different names or have different locations Looking at this Different MB ---> Support Manual for EVGA Z490 FTW WiFi (122-CL-E497) start around page 52 for details on M.2 (excerpts) 3. Once in BIOS/UEFI, navigate to the “BOOT” section. Then go down to the “CSM Configuration” heading and press enter, or click on it with your mouse. EVGA Z490 FTW (122-CL-E497) a. For Windows 10: Set “Launch Storage OpROM Policy” to “UEFI”. Then set “Launch CSM” to “Disable”. 8. If you are using an SSD connected to the motherboard’s M.2 slot, re-enter the BIOS/UEFI and go to “Advanced – Onboard Device Configuration,” and set “M.2 Socket3” to “Enable.” The EVGA Z490 FTW auto-enables this option if an M.2 SSD is detected. However, it is still worth checking to make sure the option is enabled and/or the device is detected. 9. Go to the “Boot” Section, set “Boot Mode Select” to UEFI, and set first boot device to “Hard Disk:Windows Boot Manager”.

I agree that the issue is related to the SSD. A B series MoBo just does not have many settings available to configure. -Secure boot is on, but it is marked as "not active" bc it is in setup mode. -NVME is enabled by default. but you cannot see that setting or config unless you enable fast boot. -SATA chipset is enabled but nothing installed on any of the ports. -The only settings available for CSM are enable or disable. You cannot config beyond that. -There is no Launch storage OpROM setting. -Cannot config M2 socket. -USB is enabled. Did not find any applicable DL on the WD site. The SSD comes unformatted with no partition. But I did find that my issue is a common problem without any good solutions. For the most part, the folks that got it to work as a boot drive already had a running system & they cloned to the WD SSD. They had to remove the other drive & fiddle with the SSD to get it working. I know that sounds ridiculous, but that's what I picked up from scanning their user forums back to 2018. In any event, I put in a support ticket with them. So, maybe its back to SATA for me. I know a HDD would work, but don't really want one. Do you guys think I would have the same issues with a SATA SSD?

The CPU does not have IGPU. My 1st adventure with the red team. Being a lifelong member of the blue team, it kind of feels naked without one at least for TS.

Hard to believe but they just responded to my support ticket & told me to connect it to a different SATA port with a different cable, LOL. Don't think that they are going to be much help here.

Try the NVMe in the other slot. If that doesn't work, try a different NVMe. I'm betting it's the NVMe slot or drive.

TS update: -Removed M2 SSD. 1-booted with new SATA SSD. 2-booted with new HDD. BTW all 3 of these drives were recognized by the BIOS & related ports were enabled. -Replaced the GPU with known good one. -Removed PSU & reconnected everything on both ends. -Cleared CMOS again & restored optimized defaults. -Removed CPU & inspected pins. It looked fine. At this point, IDK anything else to try. It always boots to the windows logo & hangs. I let it sit there for 2 hours, but no change.

Ensure only 1 stick of memory is installed, the system drive (SSD), and no other USB items except keyboard and mouse. During the launch of the Windows setup choose the option to remove all partitions from the SSD. After that is done format the SSD (if this option is available). Then attempt the install.

Well it worked smooth as butter after I removed a stick of RAM & rebooted. Then, updated chipset, GPU, LAN, & audio drivers. Next Win update. When that is done, I assume that the RAM can go back in? Thank you so much! And a big thanks to all of you who helped me get this thing in the road.

So this community is the best & just another reason to stick with EVGA. The saga continues. The PC does not boot with both RAM modules in the A2, B2 slots which is what the MoBo recommends. It boots fine with one stick in A2 but no dice if you put the other stick in A2. So, it seems that one of the brand new sticks is a fail. And probably the cause of all the drama. The GPU idle temp is about 39 C which seems a bit high. I have not adjusted the GPU fans yet. CPU idles at about 29 C & topped out at 68 C when running the CPU-Z stress. PC is running the stock fans for the case which are 2x140 mm front intake & 1x120 mm rear exhaust.

Yes could be a faulty ram module. In such a case most all memory manufacturers have lifetime memory guarantees.

Yeah, both sticks look identical in the post with freq, timings. And I even pulled one of the sticks early in TS & tried to boot with only one. As luck would have it, I pulled the good one. Should have stopped right there & tried the other stick, but did not. Experience is something you get just after you needed it. New RAM is on the way & should be here sometime later this week.

Well this issue just doesn't want to go away. Got the new RAM in the afternoon mail. Added an 8 GB stick so that it now has 2x8 in dual channel mode. The BIOS is showing only 8 GB installed, but it boots fine & CPU-Z is showing 16 GB in dual channel mode. Shut it back down, removed RAM & blew out the slots with compressed air, cleared CMOS, loaded defaults, but it still only shows 8 GB in BIOS. And still the same 16 GB in CPU-Z. What are your thoughts on how to resolve this?

Have you - Disable "Fast Boot" in your MB BIOS ? (this makes the MB "poll" the current hardware, & realize hardware or firmware has changed)

I have not tried to rollback the BIOS. B4 putting together the system I flashed the BIOS to the latest one & have not touched it since. TBH I'm a bit squeamish about fiddling with it. The other update is that Resmon is showing only 8 GB, so I suspect that is what is actually running.

Changed out sticks & slots ad nauseam. 3 of the 4 sticks are "good" or at least will boot the system & work. 3 of the 4 slots are good & will boot the system with a single good stick in any of them. A2 slot is suspect & won't boot if that is the only slot in use. Strang thing is that the system has been running a single stick in A2 since we solved the initial issue on 8/28. Now, that option is not working. Right now, the system is running 16 GB dual channel with sticks in A1 & B1. Going to let it run that way for a day or so to see if it behaves. And as previously stated CPU-Z was reading 16 GB when all other indications were that only 8 GB were actually working. it was also confused about the slots that were occupied whenever there was a stick in A2. E.G., if there are sticks in A2 & B2, it reports that the sticks are in A1, A2. Maybe a clue for one of my smart friends? BTW, this thread is becoming all about HW & probably should be moved over there.
