Hi,

I recently updated my bios.

First I noticed both my cooler fans were not spinning (but one kept trying to spin as if he was receiving power for .1seconds).

So I swapped into bios, changed some setting - Set DC power to CHA_FAN1 (which is where it was connected to) and 100%.

Swap to windows - can't get the fans to go under 1100 RPM on manual, can't get them below 1350 on auto with curve set to 25% below 40c.

So, tried a lot of things - to no avail.

IIRC, before I updated the bios, one fan would seize spinning under low load. As it stands currently - both are constantly doing the ~1100 when I have them set up via the BIOS to not spin at >25% for below 40c.

So, how do I get them to drop back down below 1100 and let the software take control as necessary and based on the curve I set-up? (I am almost 100% certain one fan is meant to stop spinning if there's no load on the CPU but correct me if I am wrong)

I thought it was just a matter of DC+100% in the BIOS for the software to take over?

All help appreciated.

Example attached

Manual set up, 1100 at "lowest" setting.

K boost is off, it would glow blue if it were on.

Can't even enable it (ironically, because now that is broken too it seems - attached image).

USB cable was never unplugged :D

I haven't changed anything other than BIOS. Which is why I'm so confused as to how I can't get this set-up again.

BIOS - Can change the USB setting on MB

Was / is it Legacy Mode or UEFI before the BIOS update ?

Windows Device Manager show any issues ?

Try it with Corsair link - turned Off

OS details ?

  • BIOS - Can change the USB setting on MB
    •  How? sorry.
  • Was / is it Legacy Mode or UEFI before the BIOS update ?
    •  Not sure. Ran very outdated bios before this - felt it was best to update because of certain volting issues(no OC) with my CPU (should've left it in hindsight)
  • Windows Device Manager show any issues ?
    •  None
  • Try it with Corsair link - turned Off
    •  Tried it - no changes to anything

1. What motherboard do you have?
2. What do you use Corsair Link for?
3. Are you running the latest version (2.0.9) of Flow Control?

* Corsair Obsidian 450D Mid-Tower - Airflow Edition * ASUS ROG Maximus X Hero (Wi-Fi AC) * Intel i7-8700K @ 5.0 GHz * 16GB G.SKILL Trident Z 4133MHz * Sabrent Rocket 1TB M.2 SSD * WD Black 500 GB HDD * Seasonic M12 II 750W * Corsair H115i Elite Capellix 280mm * EVGA GTX 760 SC * Win7 Home/Win10 Home *

Motherboard: Asus Prime z370-e
Corsair Link for Ram controls.
Running version 2.0.9

I just spent 15mins double checking everything in the Bios.

Only 3 fans are controlled via BIOS, all other case fans are controlled via case fan controller and afaik run 900RPM constantly.

3fans;

2x CLC fans = 1 3pin
1x Exhaust fan =4pin PWM

The exhaust fan is plugged into CPU_FAN1 (BIOS Settings are PWM with curve)

The CLC fans are plugged into CPU_OPT.

As far as I am aware CPU_OPT runs 100% all the time, which is why it recommended in the manual to run watercoolers off it. Plus 3pin CLC cable should cause it to draw 100% all the time.

There's a 4-pin AIO_PUMP header on that board, right?..There most likely is..Connect the pump to that..Connect the fans to the pump..Connect the USB cable to a USB header..Should be no muss no fuss.

This one is your board?..The AIO_PUMP header is right below CHA_FAN2.

    • Yes.

    • The fans connect to the CPU cooler via splitter - the cpu cooler only has 3pin leaving it. I'll Plug it into the AIO and we can see how that goes.

Yeah done - no discernible change.

Still running 1200RPM on lowest settings.

I'm half a mind to just order 2 new fans.

Now you have it hooked up right.

My H80i V2 fans run at 1140 minimum, by the way..Can't even really hear them..Do your fans make noise, or what's the problem with them running at 1200?

Honestly, and I apologise in advance if this is stupid, but I swear I had mine running lower and in a 1on/1off config before.

So only 1 would spin if there was no reason to ramp it up (live in UK, CPU is often at 25c/~75f when doing office stuff).

Yes, they are extremely clattery. It sounds somewhat like an old HDD reading/writing and it comes and goes. I tested their noise out, once they hit 80% I honestly fear they will break.

I'll probably end up buying 2 noctuas to replace them with at this rate because it honestly sounds like they are getting worse.

Yeah it looks like that's the right call.

I'll probably end up looking at the build tomorrow and deciding what fans I want to get based on some more recent reviews.

Thank you for the help, both of you, much appreciated!
