This is my first time posting EVER so not even sure what im doing. Bought a EVGA GTX 970 SSC off ebay "AS IS/NOT WORKING" because seller said it had a bad capacitor. I figured no big deal, should be an easy fix. Turns out that the card isn't even an ssc card, but an SSC wanna-be (BestBuy FTW) witch really had me mad! As if that wasn't enough, turns out that the problem wasn't even a bad capacitor, but several chips on the PCB instead.... one on top of board and one one bottom of board as seen in pic's. If someone could PLEASE tell me what these are 'specifically', and where to buy replacement's, would really help me out A LOT.

Theres nothing wrong with the BestBuy cards. They are the same exact card that evga puts out themselves only BB gets there own designation so they don't have to compete in the market so hard. Its just your usual shady marketing tactics. I cant see your image but its probably cause your new so you may have restrictions on it, im not sure about image restrictions. Before you try to fix this card yourself did you inquire about having evga do it instead or a pro shop near you to get a higher chance of a successful fix?

Not being able to post pic suck's. Hard to get someone's help if you can't "show" them what it is you need help with. And yes i knew i was buying a non-working card and was cool with that.... just was told it was a capacitor when it wasn't, and was expecting it to be the cooper-piped heat-sink not the alum. But it's all good if i could just find out what the parts are and where to get them. Hard when i can't post pic's.

Thank you Sajin for your help. However, i do have a question concerning the Mosfet. There are two rows of letter's/#'s on it: Top-4C10N  Bottom- RBB3Q.  Do those on the bottom not matter? Also, the bad one on back side of card kinda look like those as well and there are two side by side.... any idea's what those are?

Silly question, but did you plug the serial number in on EVGA's Guest RMA webpage? There's a chance it may still be under warranty depending on when it was manufactured: https://www.evga.com/support/guestregister.asp

Get a refund from the seller. He said 'it was a bad cap' when it was not.
And it is not the model he said it was, get a refund and buy a good GPU.
You may replace the chips and they may go bad again when you put power to it.
Not knowing why they blew in the first place.

bill1024,seller has a no return policy. However, doe's have eBay money back guarantee although I'm not sure how that works or how long it will take to get a refund. Would most likely be out the cost of return shipping? Your advice is sound, and i have given thought already to the fact that it may just burn out again not knowing what caused it to happen in the first place, but considered it a possibility that it burnt out due to "overvolting' by someone? Along with a few other variables. If that's the case then shouldn't it be fine once parts are replaced?

That's the plan but getting one within my current budget is the prob. Already have the tools, and several dozen YouTube vid's i've watched several dozen times, so think i can do it but only time will tell the tale. Thank's for the support.

well  ? find another 25 buck e-bay deal??  to be honest  if you spent over 25 on that first card  with free shipping  was a bad deal from the get go  .   maybe to me if I got the card fior free to goof around with them kind of repairs maybe worth it then.   I'm not out nothing but time  , just a shrug shoulders , chunk back in my junk box for a rainy day if one was to come up and I need parts off it   like the cooler or the fans for something .

maybe next time have the guy pull the cooler off and take pic's   of the pcb ???

I see you replied to that guy looking for a bad card . maybe you 2 can hook up and work something out on that deal ?

Sorry havnt been on here for a minute but been busy with some things. Anyway, bought another 970 (FTW) to use to fix the other one. Turns out the card is in way better condition than my original lol. Looked it over with magnifier on both top and bottom of pcb and can not find one thing wrong "Physically". Fans however run full speed as soon as i turn pc on and it will not boot which leads me to think it is Bricked. If anyone out there Can give me some idea of what to do to fix this i would be very grateful.

Could someone have changed the video bios on the card?
Can you try flashing it back to a stock bios?
Or even an undrclocked stock bios?
I dont know how, but many here do, I am sure they will help.

another ''burnt'' 900 card as well , wow

My nephew had his system built by NCIX about 2 years ago, nothing fancy, around $2000 CA and it was based on 970. He doesn't OC, it was more for his rendering projects, you would think the card should last him for few years, but about 2 weeks ago his card burned out
It's electronic, yes there is no warranty when something will go bad, but doesn't' seem that from 900 series to present models  they have more issues than 700 series. Yes there were some 700 series GPU's that had issues but doesn't it  seem that the new cards seem to be more prom to go bad
