Well, I don't think I really need that modem with my internet:
!

YES Virginia, that is in MBPS!

I am torn on what graphics card to use:
v9800- triple monitor support, powerful, but pricy
v8800- triple monitor support, not pricy, not as powerful
quadro 5000 - ? Opinions, anyone?
quadro 6000 - ? Opinions, anyone?

Is there a reason you're looking at workstation cards?

Well I would go for 580s then, but that's just me. Otherwise, the best Quadro card. Being the Quadro 6000 I believe.

Yeah, they'll do Photoshop etc fine, and I assume they render quite well on CAD, but I don't know for sure.

One is better than enough if you're going to do 3 displays. Because workstation cards don't need an extreme clock configuration unlike gaming cards to run multiple monitors. If you got enough cash, try 2 for a safer side.

OK.
I really don't have the money to spend for 2 $3000 graphics cards.
How do the quadros game?

I really only need the v9800 for
Photo Editing
Video Rendering and Editing
HD Video Playback
Graphic Design
LIGHT gaming.

These blocks seem better and are more expensive (but are on SALE!):

What do you think?

Personally I doubt there's significant difference in performance between the gold and the basic version. Mine is hidden inside the case so no time for me to admire its beauty :) However if you can afford it (as it's on sale) you probably should get it.

I am looking at the strider and the sr-2 manual. It seems the sr2 needs 2 8 pin cpu connectors, but the strider has only 1! What can I do? Is there an adapet I can buy?

Even the $700 Quadro 4000 + Mercury Engine makes a big difference. Can't say how that compares to a GTX 580 (except you only save $200).

With regard to the block, if you like the gold look better than Nickle, go for it. I liked nickle when I bought mine, and I still love the way it looks.

As for adapters, not sure. You can get a smaller PSU to help with it though. i.e. a Corsair AX750.

Yes, you can get PCIe 8pin power to EPS12V power adapters. This is a much better idea than a second PSU; dual PSUs only become necessary if you plan on running more than two 250W+ video cards.

Wait you don't need an adapter. These are the connectors supplied with the ST 1500.

1 x Main connector (20+4Pin)
1 x 8 / 4-Pin EPS / ATX 12V
1 x 8-Pin EPS 12V
12 x Peripheral
12 x SATA
4 x Floppy
8 x PCI-E

Regarding SSDs, if I were you I would get a Revodrive X2.

Just watch your pin-out in whatever you find to compensate for only getting 1 8-pin CPU power cable.  I've read of people that have found it fairly easy to put a "round peg in a square hole" with these power plugs.

Here's a website that I have found very valuable when it comes to PC cables information of all types:

I have as well, but the ST1500 has two of the CPU 8 pin(EPS) connectors, so it's not a problem.

I really love the HP 30" monitor (the ZR30w) and totally appreciate the screen real estate having come from an HP 2335 (23") monitor.

Personally I would go for a Dell UltraSharp 30", but that's just my preference. I haven't heard anything bad about the HP though.

Those are the $1000 ones, right?
Are there any better models?
How does the scaling work with the bios?
Does it have tilt, swivel?
Can you give me the dimensions, I'd lke to have 3 in a semicircle around my desk.
How is the color quality?

I don't have a 30" Dell, so I can only base my opinion on what I've seen others say...

I believe they are more like $1500 each, not sure. Might be more like $1300.
Unsure what you mean about the bios..
Tilt and swivel, I know for a fact the 27" does, so the 30" should.
It's about 30" wide for the actual screen, so figure around 31"-32" total width.
Color quality is absolutely superb, it's an IPS panel, capable of 1.07 billion colors as opposed to a regular pan with 16.7 million colors.

So the color quality is great on the hp?
I don't think the hp had internal circuitry.
A plus since there is almost no input lag (I think!)
But I am not sure about the bios optons (since they are low resolution and not native) or other displays that do not operate at native resolution since the hp has no scaling.
It also does not have an osd for options.

Check out the reviews (on-line written and you-tube) for the ZR30w and you will see that it is a great monitor.  Of course as is with many monitors, if you are a graphic artist, etc, you would be using hardware/software tools to fine-adjust colors to your needs anyway.  The ZR30w is a very solid monitor and has held up very well in reviews.  I first heard about the ZR30w when MaximumPC chose 3 of them to be part of their annual Ultimate Build PC (the SR-2 was included in that build too).

The actual monitor used in the HP ZR30w is made by LG, but HP adds some better connectivity to the rear than LG's 30" product offering.  Dell doesn't make their own monitors either, so either way (HP or Dell), you want to look past the big-company names and peer into who is making the internal LCD.  At times, HP and Dell have used the same internals, so whatever you do don't get hung-up on the company names (Dell or HP).  I have used professional series HP monitors for years and have always been happy.

You may consider the NEC PA Series LCD if you are looking for a pro monitor http://www.necdisplay.com...4f55-a29c-ad0fbdf58464

We have a problem!
3x zr30w or any 30 inch monitor will not fit on my desk!
I guess I need a smaller (24 inch) monitor. However, I would like to keep the high resolution and color gamut of the zr30w.
Any suggestions?
