Prices of the recently-launched GeForce GTX 1070 Ti ($380-ish launch price) cards are touching, $900; those of the GTX 1080 (non-Ti) are over the $1,000-mark

EVGA is sold out. Newegg is sold out. Heck, even Best Buy is sold out. The only people left selling any cards whatsoever are third parties and scalpers on Amazon, Newegg and eBay. When GPUs have a $900 markup I can't really blame people for scalping them either.

The next friend or person that asks me for GPU buying recommendations I am going to tell them a 1060 6GB isn't worth Newegg's $530, they should just spend that money on an Xbox One X and pocket the savings.  Good thing I already bought my 1080 Ti a few months ago, I sure as heck wouldn't pay $1,200 for one today. (soon to be $1,700 if the last 1,200 seller on newegg runs out)

Try finding an RX Vega 56 from PowerColor or Sapphire because your daughter wants nothing less than an all AMD build.

I don't care ASUS GTX1080Ti FE is 880 euro in my country if something happen I will buy that and Install waterblock.
Anyway I ordered pump/reservoir/radiator and fittings.
Poseidon is still 1032euro in my country.
But I would rather payed 1000 euro Volta reference than Poseidon because Pascal will not satisfied 3840x2160 in all games.
And I change monitor in November. Downscale resolution on 1440p on 43" monitor would be very bad experience.
I will need to deal with lower detail rather than resolution, and off course AA Off always.
4K monitor need to be at least 34" size for nice experience.

    In Austria/Germany ASUS GTX1080Ti Poseidon 930-950 euro.

The real question is "how much of this is Nvidia had a real good holiday sales season" and how much of it is "ramping Pascal production down in favor of initial Volta consumer card production".
Keep in mind that the process of switchover can take a fair bit of time - weeks if not months - given lead times and manufacturing times involved.

AMD cards are also getting hammered again - FINALLY.

The "second big cryptocoin price jump of the year" in December is also a factor - but that should have hit AMD cards a lot harder than Nvidia cards, while the reverse was actually the case - Nvidia was short-supply and price gouging a WEEK and more ago while AMD cards didn't start getting hammered hard 'till a couple days ago.

Funny...I was at my local Fry's today and there wasn't an Nvidia nor AMD video card to be had, except the GT710 and GTX 1050 from MSI.  The shelve were like Old Mother Hubbard's...bare as I have ever seen them.

There goes the next step in my total pc rebuild project. Seriously wanted to replace my MSI 980 with a EVGA 1070/1080, possibly a TI variant, but never mind. The thing is I was originally waiting till prices dropped due to the miners but now they're going back up because of course the miners. The mining community is doing nothing but causing harm to hardware prices.

Frys, Newegg, Amazon, Best Buy, they're all out. Just third party sellers left.

You know it's good when the local PC chain has raised prices on its remaining NVIDIA cards to match the eBay going rates. It's a scalpers market and will continue to be until either cryptomining crashes, or NVIDIA releases a massive surge in supply to break the feedback cycle. At this point I don't see either being likely scenarios.

Blame AMD, not miners - if AMD would supply enough of THEIR GPUs to meet the demand, most miners would not CARE about NVidia cards.

Same boat here, got my Titan 1080ti for MSRP $850 and anyone looking to get into gaming the Xbox One X looks to be the best buy.

Wow Im starting to get the feelings on PS4 and Xbox

Starting to slowly piece my new threadripper build together. Between the ram prices, and the price of the second 1070 I want. Its sheer madness to build a machine right now.

I wasn't planning to buy a Xbox One X or PS4 pro right now. But at the rate these things are continuing to increase in price I might just eventually go over to being a console gamer full time for a majority of everything.

Was at Best Buy yesterday. Literally only 2 GPU's in the whole GPU area, a 1080 @ $550 and a 1050. The rest of the area(3 shelves probably 7 feet long each) was barren. The great GPU drought is legit.

Amazing they had a 1080 left. At that price you could profit by flipping it online. They are selling for around 750 to 800 from Amazon right now, cheapest non-TI on Newegg is $1,144 as of this posting. Literally priced the same as the Ti's

It's not miners. The ROI is not good on 1080. Some think Nvidia being secretive. Already have geared up production in factories for next gen. Stopped production on current = shortage. Some think about April before normally priced Nvidia GPUs can be had, but next gen worth the wait.

Difficult to say but the GTX 1080ti launched in March of last year and we're approaching one year since that launch. I'm 'guessing' that if there is a new product launch it will be during the GDC 2018 in March.

NVidia launched Pascal 2 years ago - in March.
They seem to have fallen into a pattern of "new card announcements" in March the last few years.

The question is "will it be a hard launch" if they do repeat that pattern, or will it be a "soft launch" with cards not available for another month or two afterwords?

Yeah I didn't have that much money readily available and with all the issues I've been having lately trying to sell stuff online, no way.

Or until Nvidia and AMD release a driver patch to block mining on the consumer cards forcing these people to buy professional level cards. These scum hurt gamers and the gaming industry, if we can't afford a fast enough gpu we wont buy a game that we cant handle

It's not just gpus either. Was around microcenter yesterday. Not a single power supply over 750w available.

It's the darn miners and scalpers that are destroying the market or at least for the system builder/gamer.  I'm sure the sales look great for all companies but if these GPUs aren't good enough for mining or a driver shows up and shutsdown this mining circus, forcing miners to purchase mining only GPUs, you'll see a massive sell off on places like ebay which will be great for those looking for a GPU but who wants a GPU that mined 24/7?

On another note, many F5's will need to be replaced this year once Volta is released but feel we'll be competing with miners and scalpers if there's no fix to this.  It's gonna be war! OR Nvidia will find this supply and demand excuse to jack up the pricing once again and make their shareholders happy.

Bad timing to be looking for a GPU, including myself but looks like I might be holding off even longer if things don't change in the positive direction for system builders/gamers.

Nvidia doesn't like the miners and I'd wager neither does EVGA, they abuse the warranty going so far as intentionally breaking their gpus so they can upgrade for free

Blame AMD, not miners - if AMD would supply enough of THEIR GPUs to meet the demand, most miners would not CARE about NVidia cards.

Lol...What??? You're blaming AMD for miners buying Nvidia cards? So if the USA goes to war and petrol prices rise at Shell as a result, you'll blame Exxon?

I believe the implication was more that since AMD cards are superior for mining purposes, if they were in plentiful supply, the miners wouldn't be buying NVIDIA.

This is easily solved..... you limit the amount to be purchased by household address with the CC and bank accounts connected to that address to 4 tops. After a purchase has been made you cant purchase any gpu 1060/rx480 or above again for 90 days. Of course greed probably wont let this happen but it def doesn't have to be the problem that it is.
