NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti to Have Crippled Crypto-Mining Performance | TechPowerUp NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card is likely to feature a hardware hash-rate limiter, much like the recently launched RTX 3060, according to kopite7kimi, a reliable source for NVIDIA rumors. The hash-rate limiter ensures that that crypto-currency mining performance of the card is significantly lower than what its hardware is capable of, so it doesn't remain viable for miners. The limiter works through a secure key exchange between the video BIOS, system firmware, and the driver; so driver-level modifications wouldn't affect it. The RTX 3080 Ti is being launched to fill the large price-performance gorge between the RTX 3080 and RTX 3090. Its rumored specifications wildly swing between a 12 GB memory setup maxing out the 384-bit memory interface of the "GA102" silicon; and 20 GB of it across a narrower 320-bit wide interface. The card allegedly features 80 out of 84 streaming multiprocessors (40 out of 42 TPCs) enabled, working out to 10,240 CUDA cores, 80 RT cores, and 320 Tensor cores. Below is a picture of the RTX 3090 Founders Edition. I hope this is true so that supplies are this video card are fruitful. However Scalpers remain a constant threat.

I am not surprised at the same time if rumors about the 3080Ti are true then it would have already came out...

We'll be hearing rumors about the 3080 ti for awhile longer it seems, wonder if the 40 series will be out before the 3080 ti rumors stop. maybe it'll be called the RTX 3085, or 3080 ultra, just to make the rumored name wrong, assuming it ever really does come out.

Very good point. As a potential 3080 Ti buyer, having hashrate gimped hardware would actually be a dealbreaker. I run the gamut folding, crunching, mining, and gaming on my hardware and I expect a high-end card to delver what it's capable of, otherwise it's not worth buying. And unfortunately it won't do a single thing to stop scalpers, because they will continue to scalp as long as it remains profitable to do so.
Have water, will cool.

I think initially this will Be great but bottom line it will hurt sales and maybe with the limited Chips they don't want to sell has many, but a lot of gamers including myself let there machines mine when there ideal and when gamers realize that these chips are hampered as a lot people will not read or know that there is a limiter people will start avoiding it.

These press releases about cards are so annoying..... When we all know that IF they even get produced , that no more than 5 customers will ever be seeing them for about a year. Then we get to also hear about cards not even officially announced to be produced too..?? Right ! ..
