NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti Now Rumored To Launch in April With 12 GB GDDR6X Memory & 10240 CUDA Cores (wccftech.com)

New specifications for NVIDIA's upcoming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card have emerged from Kopite7kimi. The graphics card has been in the rumors even before the GeForce RTX 30 series was introduced and has seen various spec changes but it looks like as we get close to an introduction, NVIDIA has decided to revise the core and memory configuration once again.

In his latest tweet, Kopite7kimi reports that NVIDIA has once again modified the specifications of the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti graphics card. We know that GPU makers plan out several GPU configs prior to their release but in this generation, we have got to see just how much different variants a graphics card sees prior to finalization and production. This has to do with GPU yields, production & stock, & the latest specifications, while a small downgrade core-wise, will still net almost similar performance as the GeForce RTX 3090.

NVIDIA's GeForce RTX 3080 Ti / RTX 3080 20 GB FE (Founders Edition) graphics card is expected to feature the PG133-SKU15 PCB design and the GA102-250-KD-A1 graphics core. The GA102-250 GPU has also changed since the last time we saw them and will now feature 10240 CUDA cores within a total of 80 SM units. Since the main core configuration is entirely brand new, the previously leaked clocks & TMU/ROP counts should now be dismissed.

As for memory, the card will feature 12 GB of GDDR6X memory. Unlike the 19.5 Gbps speeds of the RTX 3090, the GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is said to retain the same memory speeds as the RTX 3080 at 19 Gbps. Since we are getting 12 GB memory, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti will be using a 384-bit bus interface which equals a total bandwidth of 912 GB/s. So while we see an 8 GB VRAM reduction over the previous spec, the larger bus interface should drive higher memory bandwidth. The TGP for the card is set to be the same as the RTX 3080 at 320 Watts. That's definitely needed to feed the extra cores so NVIDIA might have to optimize the clocks a bit here.

As for the launch date, Videocardz has suggested that the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti is likely to launch sometime in April though the date isn't 100% guaranteed. The reason stated is that the same roadmap that lists down April also has other dates mentioned. But with that said, the RTX 3080 Ti still aims to compete against the Radeon RX 6900 XT at a lower price point. It is likely the changes to the memory design could've been made to offer the card at a more attractive price point which will still end up being closer to $999 US, the same as AMD's flagship graphics card.

In my personal opinion this info might be somewhat true. Right now NVIDIA can't make enough GPUs to meet demand. Releasing a new SKU after the 1st quarter of the year might be doable,

I personally think that the Ti line will be the answer to an AMD graphics card or the half way point between generations. I personally don't think that the RX 6900 is much of a threat because why it's faster then a 3080 in some games the second you turn on ray tracing the 3070 beats it at half the price. With the new consoles supporting ray tracing and a lot of ports coming to PC I can't say many are going to want to spend $999 and not have great ray tracing support like they get on the 3080 which still offers most of the speed in other games that you get with the RX 6900 which in almost every case is more then playable at 4K.

Guess the real question is what happens when in the fall AMD releases more RDNA 2 based GPU's? What is NVIDIA answer?

I think both AMD and NVIDIA are in a bad situation with insufficient stock. I hope things will improve after the 1st quarter of 2021.

I wish... NVIDIA guessed April, but everyone else in the microchip industry doesn't forecast things to smooth out until late summer at this point.

This “rumor” might be “true,” but given this is third “rumor,” who knows.  3rd time might be the charm, but given the chip stock, this might not be released at all.  Chip supplies are not estimated to improve until the second half of 2021.  Miners are now buying the 30 series laptops.  These “miners” will continue to impact supply.  If they do release this in April, expect resellers to snatch them up and sell them at double the price.  Consumers are just that stupid.  What a time we live in.  One real chip maker that has everyone asking them to make their chips.  What could go wrong with that?

GeForce RTX 3000 series: Alternate expects delivery problems to escalate

The computer retailer Alternate, which, like the wholesaler Wave, is part of the Shift IT group, has information from Nvidia and the graphics card manufacturers stating
that the availability of the GeForce RTX 3000 series will deteriorate even further in the first quarter of 2021. There are multiple reasons for that.

    Availability should decrease again

As the company, which was founded in Gießen and is based in Linden, Hessen, with branches in Germany, Belgium, Austria and the Netherlands, has reported on its Dutch website
that it has information from " both the manufacturers and Nvidia " that shows availability the GeForce RTX 3090, 3080, 3070 and 3060 Ti will deteriorate again. In the wording it says:
We have unfortunately received the message from both the manufacturers and Nvidia that the availability of the cards of the GeForce RTX 3000 series will deteriorate further in the first
    quarter of 2021.

    Alternate
In addition to the Chinese New Year, which begins on Friday, February 12th and traditionally lasts for 15 days, the problems are also due to the poor availability of raw materials and
    Nvidia's graphics chips.
This is due to the poor availability of raw materials and Nvidia chips, but also due to the Chinese New Year celebrations, which are causing factories to temporarily close.

    Alternate

The GeForce RTX 3080 (test) and the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti (test) are particularly hard hit by the delivery bottlenecks , while the GeForce RTX 3090 (test) and the GeForce RTX 3070 (test)
should be available at least in small quantities.

This means that the chances of getting a GeForce RTX 3080, especially with new orders, are practically nil. The GeForce RTX 3070 and GeForce RTX 3090 will come in small numbers. For the
GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, too, the chances of availability, especially for the popular models, will be very low.

    Alternate

In addition, the dealer confirmed that the older GeForce GTX series are also affected. Here too, “ the supply is unfortunately also bad. "
Mining also worsens the situation for end customers

In addition to the reasons given by Alternate, cryptocurrencies and the associated mining with “gaming amps” are also one of the numerous reasons for the very poor availability of graphics
cards. Chinese mining farms, which according to official figures consume around 300 megawatts of energy, recently caused a power outage in Iran . In the meantime, even notebooks with GPUs
of the RTX-3000 series are supposed to be misappropriated for "mining" for Ethereum.

I've been saying 12GB should be the spec, for months.  Maybe memory prices are up from end of last year?

If you want to know why nvidia and amd are suffering from production, not just moving stuff its the fabs. As for consumers there are places that are pretty much stealing mass amounts of cards and selling them at crazy insane prices pretty much groups swooping in and getting entire cargo containers of GPU's to CPU's was reading about that in a couple articles a few days ago. The big one though is look at who has most of the fab capacity. Apple has most of it amd and nvidia only have small slivers or production at the Fabs. Then as someone else mentioned Chinese new years and to get things going again well that takes time for all those workers to get back to the fabs once its over. Chinese New Year is serious business in Asia. As long as Apple is hogging most of the fab capacity, these groups essentially stealing aka buying before they are even supposed to even be able to buy cards and doing it by the cargo container. Well GL. Your best bet to secure one is a pre made system if you are in the USA and go with EVGA in your prebuilt system build. Since EVGA still has quota's to meet and they also get the most cards allocated to them in NA. That's why my pc right now all the parts are supposedly in at the warehouse and its about to go to the build stage, From what I gather nearly two months on the EVGA waiting list to buy an individual card and still no email their retail card que for their webstore is really backed up.

These numbers are not correct. The RTX 3080 card is running a 320bit bus and has a 760GB/s Memory Bandwidth. The rumored 12GB card is running a 384bit bus and would have 936GB/s Memory Bandwidth. It's basically a RTX 3090 with a downgraded GPU with half the memory.

This makes sense, as it would indicate they got their yields up to the point where they can produce a good amount of near full GA102's that don't require the severe cut down of the 3080, but might not be quite good enough to make it into a 3090, or there just isn't the market or memory available for the number chips they have to be sold as 3090's.  Similar how full TU104's were sold in 2080 Supers mid cycle.

Makes even more sense; doesn't the 3090 have memory chips on both sides of the board? Just plucking off the chips on the back-half would mean a quicker production with keeping everything else equal....

This sounds like an awesome card. And at this point it seems like I won't be able to find a regular 3080 anytime soon, so I'd be more than willing to get in line as early as possible for this even better card!

I think we could be seeing the whole click link and read the story “rumor”. Not really something I would rush into thinking it’s true since it’s not like the cards are easy to find as it is. It could also be to get prior to stop trying to get the cards that are hard to find to wait for the rumored.
