In a confirmation that a future NVIDIA graphics architecture will be codenamed "Hopper," the company has trademarked the term with the US-PTO. The trademark application was filed as recently as December 4, and closely follows that of "Aerial," another trademark, which is an SDK for a GPU-accelerated 5G vRANs (virtual radio-access networks). Named after eminent computing scientist Grace Hopper, the new graphics architecture by NVIDIA reportedly sees one of the first GPU die MCMs (package with multiple GPU dies). It reportedly succeeds "Ampere," NVIDIA's next graphics architecture.
 
Personally in my opinion it looks like NVIDIA is prepping for new 2020/2021 GPU releases.

    OK, though strange ... Nvidia has to call them something .... I just think it sounds funny ... I want to get a Hopper

    Aerial on the other hand, meaning related to or in the air for something related to 5G is... something that is to straight forward to be exciting... or maybe I just like curve balls to much.

    The funny thing about codenames is the snazzier it sounds the worse the product tends to perform, as if it is overcompensating for its lack of performance. Yet when the more average or boring the codename the better then product tends to be. Don't disappoint me NVIDIA.

    My guess is Hopper is after Grace Hopper, the first person to discover a computer bug.
