Hi everyone
Lately our hydro service has been getting bothersome.
Power goes out for split second, often not affecting most appliance clocks but reseting computers.
Saw it happen today and 3 computers were affected but not 4th...
Happened to both houses so I know it isn't my farm affecting my house.
Any recommendations on a UPC that would smooth out these issues.
I have to restart a number of apps on all computers in order to resume folding
Joe

I've moved to CyberPower brand from APC - (APC, seems to have kept overcharging & killing the batteries)

Size, you need to know how many Watts your rig pulls, under full load first

You need a PSU rate higher than the load; so, if your pulling 900 Watts continuous, don't buy a 900 Watt PSU

For multi-GPU setups I use this:
CyberPower PR1500LCDRT2U Smart App Sinewave UPS System, 1500VA/1350W

& CyberPower PR1500LCDRTXL2U (1500W)

For less demanding rigs I use:   CyberPower BRG1500AVFLCD
 Amazon link CyberPower BRG1500AVRLCD

Keeps the power clean and filtered for best Rig stability

You only need 5 - 10 min of max run time to allow a controlled shutdown

Shop around, look on eBay

I use the same one CoolGTX uses:

https://www.amazon.com/CyberPower-BRG1500AVRLCD-Intelligent-Mini-Tower-Warranty/dp/B00LEFYISA?psc=1&SubscriptionId=AKIAILSHYYTFIVPWUY6Q&tag=duckduckgo-ffhp-20&linkCode=xm2&camp=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00LEFYISA

Edit: As stated in other Threads. Buy cheap crap, get cheap results. ie: crappy power supplies lead to GPU and CPU issues..but it seems a lot of people do not want to listen. In this case, I'm not accusing you, Joe...just saying...you buy the right stuff
you'll be stable as a rock.

Would definitely recommend a pure sinewave UPS, regardless of what you get. But my choice is the CP1500PFCLCD, it's been night and day better than anything APC made for the last decade.

I'll add to the Cyberpower love esp in regards to how easy it is to replace the batteries - replacements that are reliable are easily found through several companies (Again, the caveat of 'you get what you pay for' is in play) and usually only requires 3 to 5 screws to be pulled and one cable coupling to be swapped.  I run 4 (Three for my office setup and one for the wife) and will be adding at least one more in the future to keep the network equipment up in case of outage.

They have definitely been a worthwhile investment, especially in an area where brownouts were VERY frequent when we first moved in.

Years ago, I had bought a couple of APC 750's that were 500 watts I think. I had issues with the batteries not lining up in the coupler properly. They were the same size batteries as my alarm system so they were easy to acquire..
I will be buying about 4 CyberPower's (2x1300 watt models and 2x900-1000 watts)
I think they use the same size batteries...
Again thanks everyone
Joe

Just keep in in mind if you are folding your power needs might be higher then normal. If a UPC doesn’t have enough power to keep up then it’s going to not help.

Use an Associates Code & SAVE 5% - 10% on your purchase. Just click on the associates banner to save, or enter the associates code at checkout on your next purchase. If you choose to use my code I want to personally say "Thank You" for using it.

Oh That I am well aware...I had replaced the batteries in one of my APC's and I tested it on one of my testing computers and the alarms were goin off ...it was screamin that it had a load of 125%..lol
I have gizmo's for each computer and it tells me the watts etc.
It was still workin but man was it protesting..
They will tell me how much I need for my new UPS's

CDW clearance outlet website has some really good prices on things sometimes.

The Liebert UPS 1900 watt for 304$ looks interesting.
They are used/open box. Maybe off lease and refurbs.

I got a really nice color laser all in one for just over 100$ from there a couple years ago
It was new open box. Still working great and on the same toners.
No more ink cartridges for me.

Just bought a couple of these

Still trying to wrap my head around the rackmount 1300 watt+ models that Cool GTX recommended...
(I might just buy 2 more instead of 1 or 2 1300watt models)

you need a really big UPS when you regularly pull over 1100 watts 24/7

I use the included floor stand & have not rack mounted them

No Doubt!
Total Wattage combined Yes...
I had to separate my sources so to not overload my outlets.
Currently I have 4 computers folding and each is running about 400-900 Watts each.
One of my Chinese kill a Watt type gizmo's is reporting a high of 1200+Watts and that has created a mystery for me...
(Did one machine spike or was it a reading of a couple of computers sharing an outlet...my memory can be terrible)
That is why I have bought 2 of the 1000Watt Cyber's to test.

Would definitely recommend a pure sinewave UPS, regardless of what you get.

Isn't it an outdated myth? Most good PSUs should work fine without that.

About CP1500PFCLCD, one disadvantage is that it has a fan which will make some noise even when working normally, though I guess it does not matter for folding.
Also heard some complaints about bad/cheap components.

Just ordered another two CP1500PFCLCD's..
The first(2) were able to handle the workload of my computers and I don't need the larger models at the moment..
Amazon.ca was unable to fulfill the order of the first two, in a timely manner, so I got them from Newegg.ca
I am giving Amazon another chance on the second set of Cyberpowers.
