Hey,
today I wanted to share my experiences with EVGAs RMA program.
My story starts in the middle of 2015 where I bought the GTX 980 FTW, I was very happy with this card up to last year, where it began to behave weird. It would cause my system to freeze and when I tried it with a different 980 that didn't happen, so I was positive, that it was the GPU.
I opened a ticket and a few days later I got my replacement. Great.
At first this card worked fine, but a few weeks later my PC started behaving weird again, mid gaming it would black screen and both monitors went into sleep mode but this time I thought since I just got a new GPU that it could be any component except the GPU.
I saved some money (took me a few months) and I replaced my old 2600k with a 7700k meaning I had to buy a new motherboard, RAM and of course a CPU. Well that didn't work out, because the problem wasn't fixed with that, so I thought it must be the PSU right? Because everything else had been replaced, I ordered a bequiet PSU.
But this didn't fix anything either. At this point I tried everything from drivers to reinstalling windows, so I thought well now I suspect the GPU again, because with a different GPU this didn't happen and I sent it to EVGA again.
Now a few days ago my replacement arrived and first of all, thanks for hooking me up with the 980 ti as a replacement, you guys are the best.
But when I finally got to open the package you guys can imagine the look on my face when after removing the GPU from the plastic shell you see a transistor laying lose in the box and after examining the card I think I see the spot on the pcb where it should be sitting. It goes without saying that this card doesn't work either.
So to sum up: 2015-2017 everything good, early 2017 first RMA, defective but tried everything else first, next RMA a week ago arrived today also defective.
that means I had 3 defective EVGA GPUs in a row. I get why you can't just give everyone that RMAs his card a brand new one, but please you have to work on your quality assurance in RMA big time.
It's just frustrating when you have to go through the RMA process so often. Don't get me wrong, it is easy and very fast, the last RMA only took maybe 5 days total, but at some point I just want to go back to playing games with your awesome GPUs. I opened a ticket yesterday and I really hope this is the last RMA I have to do.
Here are some pictures of the lose transistor and the pcb:
