I'm a stubborn individual, and I can't let up off my x79 Dark, and the problem it's been having. Yes, it's been almost a year messing and tweaking. While I have been getting prices for my next build, I fiddled more with the bios, and I think I have gotten some place. I upped the voltage on the memory, and I believe this was the issue. This wasn't a problem in the past obviously, because I left it at zero (default). Fast forward to now, and intermittently will cause my pc to freeze and black screen. So, I think I can dish out a couple more months until I retire this mobo.  Maybe the whole issue was me being a little lazy to sit down and fiddle with the bios. Oh well.

The Dark series motherboards are definitely a masterpiece on EVGA's end, it holds up the best. However, after a lot of research, many users and pc gamers suggest the 1151 than 2066 socket if it's for pc gaming. So, I think i'm going to go the 1151 route this time. Perhaps in the future maybe Kingpin can test out the Dark's full potential? Just a thought for EVGA to have a Kingpin motherboard series.

Below is my old thread where I thought it was my 2080 giving me problems.

I had a very similar system as you except using SLI. When my Dark would no longer boot, it was time for a completely new setup. I do miss that board. I am thinking about sending it in to EVGA and see if they can repair it. I think it would make a nice PC for my daughter or perhaps a dedicated home entertainment system.

Just to be sure, did you try setting up your Dark using each (all 3) of the selectable bios to see if you get the same results on each one?

That is me in the picture, anyone else ever pet a live Lion?

I honestly don't think I did . I'll try it. Thanks. Hopefully it does something.

So I switched the bios. We'll see what happens. Unfortunately it doesn't freeze right away, usually it's 2-3 for it to freeze again.

Consider replacing the SATA cables to your drives ... they can cause intermittent system issues ..

sometimes it is hard to deiced with intermittent issues - failure because of - failing CPU or OC, MB, CPU socket / pins .....bad RAM

    Fail.

I let it idle for a few hours when I went to the store, and when I came back, black screen. I'll try CoolGTX's suggestion next.

So i have some updates... been fiddling a bit more, and i think i have narrowed it down to either the memory controller, or the actual memory itself. At the native memory speeds of 2133, the computer wouldn't boot; with all 4 sticks in, it would not boot. I took out 2 sticks and dropped the speed down to 1333, in which the pc finally would run. But after a periods of internet/gaming, the pc would freeze. i found that increased the DIMM Vref on both sides of +250mV brought stability. It hasnt frozen since then, I'll have to wait and see.

I put in a 3rd memory stick, and it managed to take it with no issues. But, increasing the memory speed back to 2133 caused the computer to hang and not boot at all. I'll have to test out each memory stick 1 at a time and see if they hang on 2133, if they do it on all 4, it's the motherboard. The PC does need replaced for sure, but for now I have maintained it to use it a little longer. Right now it's holding steady with 12gb at 1333.
