After 6 years my Cyberpower 1500VA UPS battery backup has died.  When looking up the error code on the screen F03 , it came up as "Charger Fault".   So replacing the batteries would not fix it.   I was curious if I should just replace it with a new one, What is everyone else using these days?  Do I even need one at all?

Thanks

I don’t use one myself. Never had any issues. YMMV though.

It really depends on the area you live in. If you often see a power outage then I would buy one or if you live in an older home it's probably best to replace it.

Another thing to consider is reports are that this year we could see heatwaves causing power demands go above capacity causing blackouts. That would be a reason to consider a battery backup.

Was it still using the original batteries? SLA batts don't tend to be useful past five years in a UPS. Purely random conjecture, but I wonder if it burned out components continually trying to charge bad batts.

I'm still using a CyberPower CP1500PFCLCD I bought exactly 10 years ago, recently replaced the batts in it a second time and it's been good as new. If your hardware or your data is important to you then you should always have a UPS on your main desktop and NAS. The  cable router/modem require almost no power, so it's usually possible to maintain internet during a power outage.
