When ever I switch to a new game I have to tweak the sensitivity and dpi a lot to get a decent feel when aiming in FPS. But, I can never get it exactly how I want it. I play COD mostly and I can usually get it the closest in that game more so then any other game. It really gets my goose when I'm aiming and I need that tiny extra movement when I snap to an enemies head then I can't. I'm not sure if its going from game to game or just a crappy mouse or whatever. I was using a Logitech g500 then I went back to the MX-518.

Does anybody else have any similar problems or tips that could aid me in my quest for the headshot?

Well, not every game scales mouse input the same... you just have to try and find a perfect balance for your particular game through playing with it. It's not really an exact science.

Not exact science but a multi billion dollar one though lol.

i also had the same issue with mouse and games, trying to find my perfect mouse sensitivity. The way i found my best settings was to just play like tet5ou said. If you are worried about "dropping rank" or whatever in your game then set up a custom game if you can. For TF2 i would load up walkway and shoot at the moving targets while moving myself to find the best setting for me. Also for starcraft, i would set up a custom game vs the ai and just move my mouse around. Id think to myself "i want to click here, then here, then here". Depending on if i overshoot or undershoot i change the settings. With my mouse (CM Storm Sentinel) it is very easy to set up as you can change between the full range of DPI on the mouse without having to alt-tab to the driver software.

The most important thing to try remember is are you overshooting more or undershooting more where you want to aim, then go from there.

I use the Razer Mamba and I play mostly at a constant 1800 DPI and I've gotten used to this for every game I play.  I actually don't turn it down when sniping much either.  And, I leave in-game mouse sensitivity settings default always.

I have a RAZOR Lachesis and there was software that came with it and I had thought you were able to save profiles to it and if you ran it in the background you could open individual profiles with what ever game you wanted that profile for so it basically saves the sensitivity you set for a certain game. I don't use it because Im not real in depth, just use the DPI on the fly button.

I just keep my Razer driver settings the same all the time and change the in-game mouse sensitivity settings to my preference for each game if I'm not comfortable with the defaults.

What's the deal with these new mice and their 5000+ DPI anyhow.. It's like mental-sensitive. My g9 goes up to 3200 but I never actually use more than 2800 usually.

It is overkill.  Mine goes up to 5600 DPI but in the end it does give you the optional flexibility even if you don't really need it.

Yeah, true, handy for games that have broken things like BFBC2's vehicle/turret sensitivity scaling :)

Never understood why they implemented those.  Only reason to me to get a dpi mouse..

My main game is CoD4 and I play with a CM Sentinel Advance. I run it at 1000hz polling, 5600dpi setting and low sensitivity for precise tracking at manageable speed. Switching to other games is usually not a problem; adjusting the in-game sensitivity can get it very close to my preferences, with the mouse at this resolution.
