Howdy,

New to the Computer Gaming and just finished my first build. I know the worst time in history, but luckily I am borrowing a NVIDIA 1080 from a friend of my for now. My request is if someone can suggest a decent monitor to buy? For now I have a cheap 1080 monitor and I would like to get dual monitors going. I am willing to spend upwards for $400 per monitor. What kind of specs should I be looking for and what brands to look at and which ones to ignore? Thank you in advance.

Asus does some good monitors....Acer has a couple I might consider.....

But definitely ..if you plan on upgrading your GPU when you get a chance....144Mhz Refresh ....2560x1440 at a minimum... 2ms response is nice......(as Daph above said..tho I'm not sure you need 4k...up to you there, I suppose)

BenQ might work for you...but I'd stay away from Sceptre for sure...

Acer makes some nice FreeSync/Gsync compatible monitors.  I got a 1440p 144hz 27 inch IPS FreeSync with Gsync Compatible for 400 bucks.

I recently got the Dell S3220DGF and love it. People warn of text sharpness issues when working at 1440p on a 32" screen, but I've been fine and had no thoughts about it.

You can find a 240 hz tn panel with a 1ms gtg for sub 400. Maybe even check out the price on the Asus tuf 280 hz with .5ms gtg. My friend got his for sub 400 6 months ago or so

Also I am talking 1080p monitors. It is nice to match the resolution of your first and second monitor... trust. I run a 2k 165hz as a main and a 1080p 240hz secondary and it works fine, But not ideal

Target what resolution you want and what gpu you plan to have and then go from there. If you play at 1080p definitely be sure to have a powerful cpu like ryzen 5000

if you are going pvp do a 240hz 1080p monitor
you could also run 2k 144hz for single player games.

Re: Monitor Suggestions 2021/04/29 13:34:38 (permalink)
If you go with the mentioned LG 27GN850 know that some people report headaches/ eye strain from using the monitor which is caused by the panel used.

But in general if you go for 27":
1440p
144Hz
and for gaming a low gtg response time, the lower the better.
LG, MSI, Acer or HP Omens make some good (and some bad) monitors.

It all depends on your specific usage.

at the moment I would recommend a 27 "monitor with 1440p and 144hz.
You can also use a 60hz monitor, but you will notice clear differences between the two.
I always recommend the models from Samsung and Asus.
As far as I know, the new ones from Samsung are also really good at HDR.
I do have this model: Samsung C27HG70QQU and i´m completely satisfied.

I'm going to second the 1440p and > 100 hz. That seems to be the sweetspot.

This is the first time I'm hearing about this. Is this a common occurrence? I'm looking at a different LG right now (LG 27GL850-B). I'll have to do some research on this as my eyes are somewhat sensitive.

Brands: Asus, Dell, or Samsung
Specs: 1440p, 144hz, 1ms, IPS panel if possible

If I remember correctly it was spread over different models with the same panel such as the: 27GL83A, 27GL850 and the Dell S2721DGF.

People reported eye strain/ fatigue and headaches from using it.
Apparently it's either from the blurry text due to the coating, sharpness settings or some sort of high frequency flickering to which some people react more sensitive than others.

"The backlight doesn't use PWM to dim, but there's a very high-frequency flicker. This is extremely unusual, we rechecked it with different equipment and confirmed that it's flickering at about 20kHz. This isn't at all noticeable in person."

I've always been a fan of the Dell UltraSharp series. I also do a lot of image editing and the color accuracy has been superb.

Their response time is not the fastest, but that honestly depends on what games you play.

Checked out Rtings review, and it looks pretty good. Only has display port 1.2, but the refresh rate pretty much matches the bandwidth.

Only $300 at the moment too. Tempting.

Unless you have a specific need for 2 monitors, why not go with a super ultrawide? Monoprice just released their 49" at a price that fits your budget

What's the quality going to be like on a $400 super ultrawide? My guess is not great. I could be wrong though.

         * Samsung gaming monitors *
Take a peruse around the internet.  Their last series of gaming monitors had terrible panel failures. I know, I had one.  Had to be fixed under warranty 3 times.
Their latest 'odyssey' is their attempt to rebrand because of the horrible reputation they had .... and those are having terrible problems all around as well.
Then you can move on to their Customer Support people .  Last time I checked they were rocking a 1.4  stars  out of 5 * quality rating  .....
Trust me, it is well deserved.  It was the worst experiences dealing with them over & over again , that I have ever had with companies over 30 + years  in every/ any field .
