What do you expect from a person who only plays console games.
Console users love not having the options or freedoms we do on the PC, nothing we can do to wake them up.

Where do they think half the stuff in call of duty came from.. that's right it came from the PC modding community but now without dedicated servers and being able to mod the game IW cannot "borrow" modding community ideas for the next version.

In any case, he's on my blocked users list now, saves me having to read his silly ****.
Very refreshing to see "member in blocked list" in green.

oh no. my life is over.... I suppose that means no Christmas card this year.

Anyways, I was gonna link up the stream for the 1 player but it seems the vast majority have been removed, quality wasn't too great anyways. looked good though. No comments on the MP but the single player did look well constructed at least, not sure how long it is but a bud of mine was saying he watched the first 7 missions or so.

Ah, beautiful green.
Speaking of green things, i wonder how big of a loss this whole debacle will be for Activision.
Considering the 360 version of MW2 was already leaked, and so far they have had so many preorders for pc cancelled the game has dropped out of most of the "best selling" lists, they must be seeing their estimates dropping faster then a basejumper who forgot his parachute.
And there's all the potential refunds, returned games, faulty discs, etc etc to take into account.
Then there's them potentially failing to sell DLC, the talk about a paid IW.NET...

Anyone who doesn't see how this has potential to be the most epic failure of gaming history as we know it, really should hand in their pc's.

anyone who hasn't read the original blog piece by IW's Robert Bowling that's kicked this all off:

decent read, crap reasoning though.

I think that if they make IWNET a paid subscription then they are probably going to have to provide servers.  No one would pay for that kind of lag, let alone PC gamers.

I don't think they will do paid subscription. They want total control so the only place PC gamers can get new content is to pay Activision for it, plus to be able to pull the plug on the MP part or bring out streaming ad's players must watch before connecting to a server.

Yeah I don't think they'll be able to get away with subscriptions for IWNET but the DLC will be 100% be charged IMO. it sucks but I think it depends on what the price is... I think for xbox last time I checked it was about 1200 points for 3 maps (+ a zombie level), equating to probably around £10 UK, that's a ripoff. if they did map packs in sets of 5 or so for the same price it wouldn't be so bad.

They want you to play IW with default settings, surprised IW allows PC gamers to change graphic settings.

  • No Lean
  • No way to record demos
  • Can't choose who hosts
  • Can't kick hackers or players who cause problems
  • Not allowed to change FoV (Field of View)
  • Console disabled  (can no longer type cl_drawfps 1 to show frames per second)

They think people will enjoy the MP PC experience without the options 8yr old games have?
I can see it now, message boards flooded with angry casual players cause they can't votekick a player who is cheating.

just keeps getting better and better....we did a little informal poll in our clan and it was pretty much the same from all, they would gladly pay for additional map paks, just keep them coming, this is  of course on dedi servers...its just amazing that they would sit down in a room somewhere and decide to implement the worst strategies possible to promote the game...takes clueless to a whole new level

Games like Borderlands are fine without dedicated servers, its only 4 person coop.
Half my friends list on steam last night was playing borderlands.

This game had Co-op, however they took that away too.

The cheating aspect is what kills this for me.  You really have no one to help you with that aspect.  On consoles it isn't an issue, as gamesharks are no more.  However on PC, you're only real line of defense was a good Dedicated server.

I have no issues with playing TF2 for another year, it shows what you can do with a good game, open to modding.

Prophunt is one of THE most fun games I've played in a very long time.  It's so simple, it's amusing.  But hey, who needs fun mods, right? I mean, it's not like a $15 game could ever be played longer than a $60 PC game.. Oh wait..

This game will break records alright.... The fastest one to the $5 bin, an highest % of canceled Pre-Orders in the history of gaming....

Moriarte: Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?
Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

LOL what? I feel so good that I will be able to change my resolution from 1024x768 to 1080p.

Forgive me for my stupid question. But what is dedicated server use for? Why ppl want it so much?

Well since nobody answered your question: I posted a response back on the original forums based on the same question.

This is what I posted originally:

"For multiplayer, basically there will be no dedicated server. Essentially there is p2p matchmaking. Kinda like xbox live (example Halo 3).

I don't know much about the infrastructure of the game but from what I have seen each person will be selected (randomly) as the "host" of the game. If you live on a school campus w/ a private network and do not allow ANY port forwarding then you WILL expereience lobby disconnects. This can affect gameplay greatly if the person selected has poor download/upload connection.

At our school we were forced to go from a block of 2,000 public IP address to a new ISP of 30 IP addresses. Essentially we had to NAT our network and resulted in disconnections when students are selected as the host in an Xbox live game. School campus' have blocked student to student communication (atleast ours) to prevent worms and virus spamming. Also network broadcasting. This upset a lot of students because they could not play with a friend down the hall.

With a dedicated server there is no need to worry about poor connection to that server. It's always there. It's maintained. I don't want to have a bad gaming experience because Joe Shmoe's connection is a  1.5Mb/s download and 256Kb/s upload dsl connection.

Now, I may be wrong with the new infrastructure of the game but I'm basing my experiences as a network admin and a gamer.

Secondly,

Activision has already invested too much money on the framework of the game. They will not go back and fix it. Not worth it. The money is in Console gaming and they're sticking to it. You can complain all you want, send out petitions, but nothing is going to happen. Accept it or find another game to pass the time.

So the questions are, will you still be purchasing the game if there is no dedicated server support?

Do you think the petition will persuade them to add the dedicated server support?

No,  There is no way I'll buy it, and no, I don't think they plan to add server support later.  I think they have changed their entire business model and no longer care to have things the way they were.

I'll be getting it for xbox, the first modern warfare was to good to pass this one up, I hope it lives up to my expectations. As far as dedicated servers, it would definitely be a mistake on their end, as PC sales will undoubtedly drop.

I would pay to play on dedicated servers where I didn't have to deal with all the clan BS. I'm still thinking I'll probably get the game when  get my computer back, but mostly for the single player.
