We cannot get it to work,

we set both the nvida control panel to use the nvidia 1050ti exclusively and the phsyx to use nvidia,

but for some reason it keeps showing it's connected to the intel integrated....

we can only run it at 2560 and 60hz, flickers at 120hz and 144 using a mini DP to dp cable to an asus pg278qr,

    it's an MSI GF62-7RE

any ideas how to truly disable the integrated and use the nvidia exclusively?

we can't enable g sync or get high FPS going :(
     updated to 397.93 drivers,

haven't gotten into bios settings or tried to update the bios yet though, i've been helping him over facetime lol...

Primary or initial display adapter options are always in the BIOS, somewhere..I can't get into the MSI site for some reason to grab the manual, but look in the manual or poke around in the BIOS to find the setting, change it, save and exit BIOS.

It depends on the laptop and how it is wired. It is possible that the external graphics connector on the exterior of the laptop is not physically wired to the NVIDIA GPU at all. I think that you should ask MSI.

Multitask during competitive gameplay. ... Yup, sounds like it is designed just to use the Intel graphics for multitasking without utilizing and not bogging down the NVIDIA GPU.

The external display connector is connected directly to the Intel GPU.
The laptop uses NVIDIA Optimus technology which means that ultimately all graphics come from the Intel GPU; even the ones rendered by the NVIDIA GPU. I don't know if the external display connector is in the same Optimus pipeline as the laptop's display. That is a question for MSI. Either it is possible to view NVIDIA rendered content on the external display, or it is not possible. Either way, the option WILL NOT be in the BIOS. The option will be in the NVIDIA control panel, right-click context menu ("render using..."), or Intel graphics settings, or will be missing completely since it is not engineered that way.

I've owned a laptop with nvidia optimus tech before. The way I got the system to only use the nvidia gpu was to...

#1 Make sure the bios settings were setup correctly.
#2 Uninstalled all the igpu & nvidia software/drivers from the add/remove programs list.
#3 Used DDU to make the igpu & nvidia software/drivers were completely cleaned out.
#4 Downloaded/installed the latest notebook drivers from the nvidia website.

After doing the above my system always used the nvidia gpu, and never used the igpu ever again.

That option doesn't appear to be present in his BIOS.

I own an Optimus-equipped laptop as well. With modern Optimus implementations, ALL NVIDIA graphics ALWAYS go through the Intel GPU; completely disabling the Intel GPU and still seeing an image would be impossible. Whether he can pipeline Optimus technology out to his external monitor is a question for MSI. It is technically possible that it is a hardware limitation. It's quite pointless for him to listen to us argue over the intricacies and endless possibilities.

It's hardwired to the intel igpu for any output, cannot enable g sync via the internal 1050ti because of this..

    Sigh......

    GG MSI.
