By now we are all aware of the fiasco which has been the release of the Windows 10 October 2018 Update, but we probably already forgot that the April 2018 update was also delayed due to late-breaking bugs which caused blue screens on some PCs.
Ars Technica has taken a closer look at the development of Windows, and they believe Microsoft’s process of developing their operating system was flawed from the get-go,  all the way back to even Windows 7.
They note that Microsoft has a process of actually writing code for new features of only a few weeks, and then spending the rest of the time (of several months) integrating the software and then ironing out bugs before release. This meant poor quality, unreliable software was introduced to the Windows 10 code base, and if issues are not found, delivered to the end user.

I Still blame the millennial generation
But Microsoft started down this road with the Very First Release of Windows 10.

Windows should NOT do forced updates...ever...EVER.

If people WANT an update and be the beta testers, they can do it..but I hate forced updates.

I am ok with the Forced updates and we have some control, but the Force Upgrades to the Next Version needs to stop.
Back to saying go back to Service Packs.
What are we really at now with Windows, Windows 21?

I disabled the update service and thought I had it licked, but somehow I still got an update and had to reboot.  I'm now at 1803.

The problem is that there are so many PC configurations. Some systems may not run into any problems at all while others do for unknown reasons. It would be very difficult to make the OS flawless for every configuration and there are millions.

Apple on the other hand very rarely has problems with new major OS X versions rolling out because they deliver to exactly to the product numbers they specify for full compatibility. They build the systems to their specification so they know how it will work exactly.

The worst rollout of any software. Ever. Cost me a week of dev time and now going to have to rebuild system from scratch... again.

I would rather pay for a proper upgrade than this rolling cluster...

I used to mine. Now I compute.

I disagree with part of article. Microsoft does a lot of in house and beta testing with hundreds of beta testers. Their testing obviously needs to be beefed up some more. They need to make sure the bugs found this time are set into their automated testing so the issues don't happen again.

It’s a good rule of practice to know that you don’t want to be the first to test new updates of the OS. Microsoft does a lot of testing but it’s probably on thousands of different builds while in the wild it’s millions of them.

I pretty much wait for rj to give his experience on these updates before I try them. Hasn't done me wrong yet.

Windows 10 is a dumpser fire of nonsense updates every 6 months. It's almost like they're MSM and trying to make themselves perpetually relevant 24/7/365 through forced updates.
