Just one week after freezing Windows 10 computers with an earlier update, Microsoft has warned users of serious new problems with another. Writing on the page of update KB4493509, Microsoft has confirmed the update can freeze PCs both in operation and boot up. Freezes in operation are more likely to impact business PCs as it impacts Cluster Shared Volumes (CSVs), though the lock-ups which “may cause the system to become unresponsive upon restart after installing this update” are caused by conflicts with antivirus software. Microsoft calls out ArcaBit, but in TenForums a number of other brands seem to be affected too.

It's like they aren't even trying to bugcheck their software anymore after the mandatory upgrade to Win 10

If MS wants to force [Push] updates they should do a better job to assure that it will work correctly.

So, why does MS Not give users the opportunity to go offline, Stop their security Software, After the Windows 10 Update is Downloaded & Before the Windows 10 Update begins automatically installing without the Owner of the hardware even giving permission ?
 
Seems simple enough, No ?
 
Oh, right the Engineers in Redmond know what is best for you & maybe its Not Really Your PC after all 
 
This is yet another example, of exactly why I lock my PCs down & do Not allow MS to Push their "Software as a Service"

I blame Ray Tracing and DLSS. Since their introduction it has been nothing but problems.

I install semiannual updates fresh, I do not see 99% of the problems

You do realize Windows Defender and Essentials were once a few years back recognized as having the worst anti-virus solution on the market. I believe even a fake anti-virus beat Essentials at one point

I found the above enormously helpful. Although it doesn’t prevent install - it stops auto-reboot dead in its tracks. Once you’ve done that it’s easy to locate the update folder and clear it out before install

Just disable updates. Wait for the forums to give the stability green light, and ONLY then permit Windows to carry out update installation.

Unfortunately, this seems like the norm with Microsoft as of the last few years. You would figure their highly used Insider program would catch things like this but yet here we are.
