I think I like the contrast with RTX off better. The wood and snow really pops with RTX off. Looks more detailed and has more depth.

I would kind of agree but watching the videos showing off ray tracing I can see why you would probably want it on for better reflections and overall better lighting.

I also agree that we want to know what settings he is playing at. Also wondering how playable he feels it is if he turns on Ray Tracing and DSLL.

Gamers nexus does a great break down of this game with the 2080... look it up on youtube; comments above regarding "depth" are verified by him. However, I think the RTX lighting is actually more realistic.

Not going to happen. The game has to many interframe dependencies.

Game looks really good. You should dive into that CFG file as well. There are many options to customize in the CFG of this game. You can turn off motion blur completely, remove the mouse lag and change the FOV, to name a few. Sadly, the options are very limited in-game, but the configuration file is pretty expansive.

    no no no

BIG difference with raytracing on. Nothing like the youtube videos and screenshots wont do it any justice. You have to see it for yourself. For example, the same exact scene... the guys who stand outside the train normally. If you stand in front of them (RTX off, everything else max) it will emit a massive black shadow that completely covers the character your starring it. Its almost like an artifact (but its not) its a very dark shadow that makes the guys body invisible behind it.
With ray-tracing it emits a perfect shadow and makes everything look so much better. Another example is if you go inside and watch the guy whos shoveling the coal into the fire. Its night and day with ray-tracing at max

lets stick to the train as thats the example... when the train is moving (near the workbench) look out the window to the top left and you will see the lighting reflect off the branches of all the trees while the train is moving quickly but accurately. The shadows of the different trees are correctly reflected with the correct angle through the window and It really gives the sense that the train is moving..increasing immersion

After trying RTX i really dont want to go back to normal but unfortunately the performance cost is too high so im just waiting for them to fix dlss in the upcoming patch

dont compare screenshots or u will be disappointed u need to play and decide for yourself.

It's kinda like when ppl go from 80fps to 144fps. At first they will say yeah its a small improvement but not a big deal. But after playing 144fps for a while they will hate 80fps. everything will feel slow and laggy

Playing with ray tracing on is pretty bad performance wise. I really don't like playing very much lower than my refresh rate. It does look really good though.

The game runs good with DXR and DLSS on.  Overall, the game is really good and the visuals are great too.  However, I do feel that not all sources of light are supported by RTX.  The flashlight for example.  There are many dark scenes where you use your flashlight.  It would be amazing, and really would show off DXR it the objects you aim the light at would display shadows.  However, I have found several objects that do not have shadows and it really does disappoint.  But that is me nitpicking.  The game is great and I would recommend to anybody, Ray tracing or not.

the problem with dlss is its completely unusable with metro imho
Even if you can get over the blurry image it seemingly breaks HDR and washes out colors. Nvidia is aware of this though and supposedly will fix in an upcoming patch.

If you try raytracing on with dlss off then you will be impressed. I have a 1000 nit IPS HDR monitor and it Really shows a big difference with raytracing at max but then again performance isnt there so i end up just switching back. They need to improve DLSS asap

was there a recent update that i didnt notice? Are the colors still washed out? i might be able to deal with the blurry image but the HDR washout was unacceptable

Yeah. Using HDR with DLSS is still broken.

Re: Metro Exodus 2019/02/25 13:17:59 (permalink)
Is it possible to install the game from the retail physical copy? From what I am seeing online, the disc(s) do NOT contain the game files. I did recently manage to install 'Metro Last Light' from the disc, and only had to download some available updates with Steam. However, I know this game is like six times the size at 59Gb vs. 9.46 for Last Light. What's up with that anyways? For instance, I also have 'Last Light Redux' installed, and it is about the same size as vanilla Last Light--just under 10Gb. Why are games getting so freaking large these days? Obviously newer games are going to be larger with graphical improvements, etc. But why six times larger??
Anyways, this is an issue for me as I don't have a regular internet connection--just 7.5 Gb/mo.mobile data. I live in a rural location with limited capacity. I was able to get around this for awhile when full game files were still included on retail copies. Some other games I would like to get: Battlefield I and V, and  possibly Prey (2017), to name a few. Do these also not include game files on the disc?
I hate the way gaming has gone over the past 10 years--those without good i'net are buggered. My only current option is to lug my PC to a friends house and use his SLOW 3 megabit/sec. connection to download a new game. Planning to do that soon to update to DCS World 2.5 (Digital Combat Simulator). It is probably 60 Gbs or so, and will take almost 3 days  Anyways, just wondering about Metro Exodus as I am a fan of the series. Thanks for any replies.
