There are threads around the place with people have more than the recommended PSU Watts and they have still had RTX 380/3090 go tits up.

You can still under power a card by using a split 8-pin cable.

Honestly you can take your opinion out of here cause this has happened Countless of times at this point and you are like the 3rd bafoon to say “GuYS! ItS YoUR PSU!” Yet somehow not understanding how PSU’s work to prevent the GPU from ****ting themselves as such.

Sigh. This same scenario happened to me when playing GTA5. Playing normally, then everything went black and my card fans went wild. My system wouldn't respond to anything, so I hit the reset button. That's when the "VGA Error" light on my motherboard lit up. I've tried everything to get my system to post with no avail. I swapped video cards and the other card boots my system normally. I'm on a Corsair 1000w power supply and the card had previously had no issues with Cyberpunk, Horizon, etc.
Hopefully the RMA process is quick/effective and this doesn't happen again.

I had the exact same experience as OP. MCC (Halo 4) killed my card (3090 ftw3 ultra). On the first crash it was able to boot, then around a month later the second crash bricked it. It now only displays a single red lead on boot. RMA'd it and using a spare 1080 in the same slot in the meantime.

Not sure how this could happen, but it cant be a coincidence that MCC is bricking so many 30 series cards.

Was running a 750w PSU, a couple years old. Maybe MCC has some legacy code that causes high power spikes and subsequently causing a PSU failure.

In BOLD what ACTUALLY fried your card... Come on guys 3090 comes with a minimum recommended 850W and you slap it on a pc with a used 750W which is probably not even gold standard and has a 2 year degradation that can even be minus 100W in some cases. So technically you put a 3090 on an 650W and blame the game...

I'm using a gold stand EVGA supernova 1000 G3 with three separate cables, all from this PSU's box, individually plugged in to my gpu and psu, and still my card broke while playing Halo MCC.I Have used this card for probably 2 months now and have not played Halo MCC until yesterday and that is when my card broke. I would say maybe I was just unlucky with a faulty card but this is my second RMA now with the first one failing close to instantly out of the box while I was playing Call of Duty, which had no problems on my second GPU. I would say maybe it's my other hardware but I am currently using the same computer with a 1070 at the moment and can play Halo MCC on the exact same settings and it is running perfectly fine. So I do feel like it is Halo that is the problem especially since others have mentioned hearing a loud pop noise followed by a red light on their GPU which is exactly what I experienced and others on here have as well with higher power PSU.

I've got an RTX 3090 and I've played about every game possible (yes Halo too) and no issues to date.

Just wanted to ask, have you tried playing the campaigns on it yet? I played the multiplayer for hours with no problem but when I switched to the campaign that's when mine finally gave out. Might be kinda a stupid question but figured I'd ask just to see.

I've been seeing more and more issues with the 3090 cards and for someone who has been trying to score one for several months, I'm starting to wonder if I should try for a different 30-series card such as the 3070 or 3080 (the latter of which is next to impossible to get).

Well I (and many others) have only had issues with one specific game. My 3090 has been working flawlessly otherwise.

Just got my RMA on the last card and got a new one and it has worked flawlessly for a couple weeks now! Except I Just got on Halo and black screened almost instantly and fans went to 100%! Luckily this time my card didn't explode. This is a joke man.

Just wanted to go ahead and post an update. I sold my EVGA 3090 and now own a FE 3090 and it has not had any problems play the mcc at all so far. I am on the exact same system as I was with my EVGA 3090. So to all the customer support people that told me it is the games fault and the card isn't to blame, I would say it is.

Try ditching DX12 configurations, see if its being caused by bugs in the game itself.

my 3090 FTW3 ultra died while playing New World Beta, have no clue if thats the cause of it or if the GPU died on its own. Anyways opened up a RMA.

I wonder if EVGA is ever going to comment on this… especially since with this New Worlds thing, FTW3 cards seem to be the problem.

Minor update from me, ever since receiving my replacement last year I haven’t had any issues so far but I am running a 95% power limit. Halo 4 worked last weekend, but I’m not ballsy enough to try with 100% which is what I was running when it happened before.

better not to buy 3090 or wait for different improved version launched.

I’ve had two bunk 3 series cards from pre builts in the last month. I was told that it’s been a nationwide issue ever since the silicone shortage

Came here to add myself to the list of "people with problems with EVGA 3090s and Halo MCC"

Lost one 3090 to MCC, got an RMA. Continued to play MCC - got a lot of black screen crashes + GPU fans while playing H2A and CEA campaigns, but nothing bricked the GPU. I did end up reinstalling the game. I don't think I had any crashes in Halo 3 or in ODST. We also play a lot of Reach firefight, which occassionally has a graphical freeze but I can recover from that.

But hopped back into CEA campaign a few days ago and a few minutes later... CRASH. Usually happens while I'm messing with settings in the menu.

I've had no similar crashes in any other game, including Control, the Avengers, Civilization. Also stress tests and benchmarks pass just fine. I don't have any overclocking active on GPU or CPU.

Really frustrating, as MCC is the main game I play online with my friends, who have 4-6 year old PCs that never have any of these issues.
