What is the screen refresh rate you're running on that 4K?  60hz?  If above 60hz, I'd recommend either the 3080 or 3090 but the 3090 I feel is for future proofing say on a 4K 120hz or higher so you can skip a GPU generation and not worry.

Get the best single GPU atm.  Not many are implementing SLI/NVLink and if they do, you could still run into issues.  It's really a waste unless you're ok with getting up to 50% increase performance for double the cost.

Dead but not dead. The 3000 series cards only have a link on the 3090's atm. So yeah who knows.

Its dead, unless you just have money to burn. The diminishing returns are real.

SLI has been declining. Too many games are buggy when using it. I would only consider SLI for content creation needs.

It's dead. Even though it's on the 3090, there isn't gaming software support anymore as far as I've read.

Gotta think the 3090 only has the SLI capability for non-gaming applications

i know this sounds dumb but i always loved the look of SLI, just makes the whole rig look like a monster, really is a shame it's all but dead at this point.

My previous build had SLI 980 TI’s and honestly it was a PITA. Seemed like over time fewer and fewer games supported SLI and the RTX cards just blew it out of the water When I built my new system.

Unfortunate to see SLI die out, seems like such a great concept that never quite lived up to it's potential.

Last time I used it was with 2 660s and really the performance wasn't as good as just a single 780 and I had all kinds of little issues with sli so I just gave up on it like 8 years ago.

My vote is brink of death.
I hated my Gforce SLI cards.  So many games are incompatible with it, the stupid bridge kept falling off.
The nVidia control panel required us to specifically enable it, and then when one of your cards dies, it's a pain in the ass to diagnose.  Oh, and the cards have to be identical, which kinda sucks, too.
Give me one bad-ass card that is slightly worse than the actual best out, such as RTX-3080 or RTX-3070.
Then, upgrades are easy.

IMO Sli i basically dead. with few new games supporting it, the resposibilty to support it being put on the game makers, and no lower end sli cards. I would say it basically done for.

I always thought SLI looked cool, but it didn't really seem worth it, IMO. I mean, IIRC, running in SLI, your performance was never actually doubled (or if you got back far enough, tripled or quadrupled). It always made more sense to me to just buy the best single card you can afford.

Since I Started building PCs ive always had SLI. Starting with 2 evga gtx 7800 and 790i ultra sli mobo. Then I had 2 and 3 way gtx 285. Man that rig was pumping out some heat. I gave up 3way and I moved 2 cards onto brand new 759 x58 mobo from evga. It was an awesome setup. It followed by 2 gtx 470s that I've stepped up to 570s cudos to Evga. Then were 2 gtx 580s and 2 780ti. By then I was running triple screen setup so sli Really made sense to me. No way one of those cards could push 5760x1080 resolution.
Finally with the arrival of 1080ti I could run this setup on a single card. It was a game changer. Ive moved to a single ultrawide monitor since then. And I don't look back to all the hoops i had to jump through to get sli to work. By that time less and less games supported it and even Nvidia itself was slow on updating sli support.
But to this day, every time I look at all those empty PCIe slots on my x99 classy I have that nostalgia feeling for a good old 2 or 3 way sli.

I guess if you do benchmarks then it still make sense. But for games any top tier card would produce reasonable framerates. So I think it's time to let it go.

I did this one gen earlier when the 980 Ti came out. But I was only at 1080p at the time. I still used the 980 TI as a dedicated PhysX GPU for awhile when I got the 1080 Ti. Just running the 1080 ti for now. Dedicated PhysX GPU still makes a major difference on some titles.  Batman series for one.

I think its becoming less and less relevant in gaming. For workstation purposes its still useful but the everyday user will not utilize.
