The FPS limit was set in the game as a preset nothing that was automatically set. Once we set it to unlimited and went back to the dashboard it showed FPS in the 200’s until the crash and white screen. The X1 screenshot I posted was right before the game crashed. Not sure if any of this helps and I appreciate the help, but at this point I’m beyond lost what to do

Right, what I'm saying is that putting the card under full load/clock/power may have have been the final straw to cause failure.  I doubt it was overheating at that point.

Post in your 20/16 forum thread with an update, more people watch that forum.   I'm out of ideas.

That GPU is rated for 88C. You can usually cause degradation to when you are beyond 90% of the threshold before shutdown... depends on how long it sat above 80C. If you compare to the air cooled solution, you would be sitting around low 60C under load, anything in the high 60's will cause the boost clock to throttle due to heat.

Thanks Kevin, I appreciate all the help. I will post the update in the other forum in a little bit. I’m beyond burnt out at this point, had to go out and have a few cold ones to unwind a little bit.

So is the consensus at this point is that the card is fried ? Or are there any options at this point

It's not looking good, but there's experts on the 20/16 forum that might have a few other things to try.  EVGA will probably swap it out on RMA.

Latest update, computer is completely dead, doesn’t power up at all, tried 2 different power strips and directory into electrical outlet and get nothing at all. Think it’s the power supply ?

Pull the CMOS battery from your motherboard and unplug your PSU. Leave the battery out of the motherboard for about 45 minutes... after that, install the battery and plug in the PSU.

If it is the power supply, you guys have any recommendations? Do I need 1000 watts or can can go a little less ?

Re: Looking for Video Card to upgrade my system 2019/12/28 07:58:03 (permalink)
This is actually a pretty crazy deal on a titanium certified PSU:
https://www.evga.com/products/product.aspx?pn=220-T2-1000-X1

If microcenter has that in stock, they would price match it.

You could get away with less, but you do have more accessories to power than the average user... I would stick with 1000w for a decent amount of headroom for how long the unit will last and to make sure you are not limited by the power supply if you choose to overclock. The lowest I would go is 850w.

Rain, I’m gonna remains the cmos battery now and let it sit for a while, unfortunately the battery is behind the video card so have to remove it first to get to the battery. At this point do you think it’s worth the effort or should I just go and replace the PSU.

It's worth the effort. It looks like you have soft tubing, so it has some flexibility to it... I would carefully remove the video card from the slot, get the battery out, then put the card back while you wait... just don't fully mount it back to the case so you can repeat the process when you put the battery back in the motherboard.

I was able to actually reach it the battery without moving the card out. Should I buy a new battery first before replacing it ?

Got a new battery and replaced it, still dead. Is next step a new PSU ? If so, any thoughts about either one of these ?

I would just stick to a Gold certified PSU. Either one of those you linked would do fine.

One last thing... How about your SATA connections, all those secure?

Ok I’ll get the one that’s closest to my house at this point. I just checked all the cables and everything seems seated well. Another question, should I completely rewire the whole computer when I pick up the power supply? Or is there just one part like the MB I can connect to see if it at least turns on.

Only use the wires that came with the New PSU

You will need to connect 24-pin & CPU 8-pin in addition to the GPU

You have confirmed that the outlet your using has power ?  test with a lamp or vacuum cleaner .. make sure breaker did not trip

Yes I’ve switched to multiple outlets in multiple rooms all with no success. Sorry about the multiple posts, I started that one when it only seemed to be an issue with the video card. This thread seems to be a bit more active and helpful so if you don’t mind keeping this one open.

I traced the wire for the power switch and reseated it and also placed it on a different jumper on the motherboard, with still negative results. I also used the power supply tester that came with the new power supply, and the power supply worked, but nothing else did, I know this is a way to test the water cooling system but it didn’t power on at all. I can’t think of what else it could be besides the motherboard at this point, what’s your guys thoughts ? Rain I can join imgur, what exactly do u need photos of

Might have to pull it all apart and start testing from the ground up - MB out of box with one stick of ram, old GPU, cooler on but not running, see if it posts, etc.

You get absolutely no sign of life from the MB - no lights, etc?  Have you gone back to the MB manual and read the install directions to confirm everything is as it should be?

https://www.gigabyte.com/...support#support-manual

Was the PC unplugged completely when you were modifying the watercooling loop?  How sure were you there was no stray coolant anywhere?

No signs of life on anything, it’s like it don’t have a power supply at all. I went step by step yesterday rechecking all the connections to the motherboard and everything was good. Yes machine was unplugged the entire time. To be honest I saw a small drop of coolant on the bottom of the case about the size of a pin head but no where else and there was definitely no leaks at any of the connections.

Well at this point you're half way to a new computer, you could get a i5-9600k, Gigabyte Aorus pro wifi z390 and 2x16 3200CL16 ram for $465 pre-tax from Microcenter.

https://www.microcenter.com/product/512485/Core_i5-9600K_Coffee_Lake_37_GHz_LGA_1151_Boxed_Processor
https://www.microcenter.com/product/512584/Z390_Aorus_Pro_WiFi_LGA_1151_ATX_Intel_Motherboard

Or under $300 with a i5-9400F combo and 16gb ram, but that wouldn't be balanced with the 2080.

Assuming the card still works.

Im assuming just replacing the motherboard, if that in fact is the reason its dead would be hard to find or just too expensive at this point ? Do u think the video card is dead too ? you are starting to scare me
