Lol this is easily one of the most pointless threads I've seen on here

Why? Because people like you want others to be whining about what's wrong? *shrug*

It's about as useful as "my card is bad..therefore all cards are bad" threads.

Whining about what's wrong??

I was affected by the red light of death issue and I'm currently on my 2nd 3090 card (which is working perfectly now btw)..

Those threads are actually useful because it let me know it was a wider spread issue and not just something wrong with my system.

Unless it has happened to you, keep quiet.. No one was whining in those threads, we were looking for help.

Wrong thread bud it's for //////////

Very happy with mine. I can pass all the 3Dmark at +195 +1150.

Top 2% in Timespy Graphics, top 5% in Time Spy Extreme Graphics , Top 8% in Port Royal. Passed all at +195 +1150 on air with no other cooling help. Going to get the Hybrid Cooler for sure.

12/3 UPDATE:

Welp, spoke too soon, just had my first black screen of death with max fans and the RGB on the card flashing like a disco ball on crack.

Happened exactly 58 minutes into a round of Half-Life: Alyx replaying the custom map "Overcharge".  Not sure yet if it's reproducible, but it happened right as I reached the top of the ladder during the final stretch of combat (ascending from the catwalk platform where a single Combine captain is hanging out), if anyone with an Index and Alyx wants to roll the dice and see if they get the same result.

Only possible warning I had that something was not 100% right was I was picking up some microstutter in the 20 or so minutes before it cratered.  Didn't have PX or AB running in the background because they lag SteamVR, but my guess is my clocks were probably starting to destabilize as it was getting ready to crash.

Temps were normal, room ambient is 65*F.  No settings had changed from what I posted 11/30.  Stock clocks and power target, standard OC BIOS profile, etc.

Probably a safe bet I'll be back with another update this week confirming this dead card walking has gone to the scrapyard in the sky.

11/30:

3090 FTW3 Ultra running smoothly for almost 3 weeks now under a variety of benching and 120hz 4K/VR gaming loads ranging from light to extreme, with and without raytracing.  Performance in VR in particular is superb, frametimes are metronome-like stable.  Running the 456.71 Studio drivers sans Geforce Experience on Win10 Pro 1909.  No crashes, blackscreens, slow bootup, or other weirdness.

For those who may be interested, it's a 20141 Taiwan card with red lips running the current stock OC BIOS (not 500W XOC).  Running Port Royal, the power draw across the 3 PCIE leads is balanced, and at a 100% power limit it stays at or below 75W drawn from the PCIE slot.  Total board power draw tops out around 420-430W.  Raising the power limit to 107% brings those numbers up to 76-77W and 440-450W, respectively.  Load stays evenly balanced across all 3 PCIE leads.  All 3 fans behave as expected as well and temps on the stock OC BIOS fan curve are typically firmly below 70*C while benching or intensive VR gaming at a room ambient of 61-68*F.

Haven't tried the XOC BIOS, don't intend to while it's still in beta.

PSU is a Super Flower Leadex Platinum SE 1000W, using the original cables (3 separate leads, no daisy chaining) and no PCIE riser on the card.

The point of this thread is to counteract the the feeling of risk and unease about having a 30 series card. Sometimes it can be comforting to be reminded that for every problem, there are a number of number of things that are working just fine, granted those aren't the ones that need fixing, but mentioning it can be comforting if it gets a bit overwhelming worrying about stuff.

Also, could you change the topic to include 3070 cards as well? Even if they don't have the high power usage of the 3080/3090, they aren't immune to having or not having problems.(not that it's possible to have neither?)

Yeah 30xx in the title would be good.

And yes also the thread about what PSU's are working fine with the series.  As somebody said It's always the minority that comes to post negative.  People who are happy with their product usually don't.    Not to say those with problems shouldn't be properly cared for, but it's silly to assume a small minority with problems means the entire launch is fudge lol

I appreciate this thread I have a 3090 FTW3 Ultra sitting here in box waiting for my 5900X to arrive later this week. I was... am... mildly worried I have a card that will red led quickly. I actually just emailed EVGA to ask them to check and see if mine is in the risk area given that I'll be building soon with it. I feel better knowing that others that are running them from roughly my vintage are not having an issue and have been working for a while.

I also feel like mine has a better than average chance of working bc its a new build and I am using a great PSU (Seasonic Prime TX-1000). With any luck we'll find out later this week.

I have both 3080/3090 xc3 ultra, both work and overclock well (2100Mhz+). The only issue was black screen with 3080, setting power to max peformance in Nvidia control panel fixed it.

EVGA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 ULTRA GAMING working great. I am on week two and love this card. I haven't pushed it that hard yet because I only have a 750W PSU once my 1200W gets here I will push it till it hurts her.

Seems to be ok for about 5 days now (3090 FTW3 Ultra), after a few brief black screens at the start. Currently on an EVGA 850 T2, but will end up on a 1000 T2. Loaded the XOC bios and ran Furmark this morning and saw it very briefly hit 508W in CPU-Z, but mostly it was 460-470 and occasionally 480 when thermal throttling wasn't keeping it down at 450W or less. That was on stock settings, no overclock on it.

I spoke too soon. Trying to do a basic render in Daz3D and I crash every time even on stock clocks. Sigh.  ignore - looks like I had accidentally upped one of the render quality setting to like 100 times higher than it should be lmao. Will need to retest tonight.

Got my 3080 XC3 Ultra 2 days ago. Immediately started flickering when refresh rate was set to 100hz (my monitor's max refresh). It didnt do it when I dropped it to 60hz. Immediately thought the card was bad as my 1080ti didn't do that. Then I thought.....yes it did, just not as much. I started suspecting the DP cable for some reason and sure enough, flickering stopped when I tried a new one.

3080 XC3 Ultra, needed the fan curves tweaking to optimise cooling but working fine now.

Mind sharing your fan curve settings?

My Gigabyte GA-X99-Ultra Gaming MOBO is also great; but my next one will be an EVGA.  Because they have a great Step-up Program and Forums and Telephone Support and My Products Page and on and on and on and on and....
