I haven't done it yet because the heatsink on the 1080 is something I haven't seen yet, where potentially the screws are on the otherside of the motherboard.....very, very, strange.  I don't know how the heat sink creates enough pressure this way.  Different than just removing a motherboard that has the heatsink on the other side.  Well let's see.  My experience with LM is at least 10-15C improvement.

good job saadtariq30 , looks like you uploaded bunch of pictures, but we only can see one, and can you take a picture of cooling fans, what brand is it. Why I'm asking, because i sent my sc17 for repair broken fan, one of the cooling fan start making tractor engine noise.

For some reason it's only letting me upload a single picture at a time. Also I didnt take a picture of the cooling fan and now I've closed it up. I just repasted using some MX4 that I had laying around. I may end up switching over to liquid metal in a few days. I'll take a snap of the fans then.

    Edit: Ok it worked.

Results: 4c drop on idle on both the cpu and gpu. Under full synthetic load on both with fan boost: Cpu dropped ~10c cooler while the gpu is ~8. I did not have time for proper testing, I essentially just stressed both the cpu/gpu to 100% and let it run for 10 minutes.

As for the MX-4 spread, I'll take pictures of when I pull it apart again (if I decide to/get the time). Application method: Tiny line on both the cpu/gpu, I did not spread it.

saadtariq30, thanks for the pics.   Did you remove the whole motherboard?  From the pics it seems like it.

I dellided my 8700k. Was alot easier than I thought. Used grizzly octonaght liquid metal. I only got maybe 5 degrees from it. Your mileage will vary depending on how well yours was done at the factory. I've had a 4700k net 20 degrees though. My CPU now sits around 85 in stress tests 50 to 60 gaming

I hope someone does this and document every step or make a video, for other SC17 users. It doesn't seem much difficult though, as long as you use very little liquid metal & use 33+ insulation tape/polish combo.

Ok guys.  Liquid Metal (Conductunaut) applied.   Very difficult mother the 1080 model, never seen the heatsink screws on the other side of the motherboard and heatsink, very strange.  I think they did it on purpose to make more difficult. Difficult to balance perfectly to then turn the whole thing over to screw the heatsink down.
5min prime95 small FFT at 4.4GHz all cores.
I am getting higher core differential than before, but I don't care for now, since it runs in the 70's instead of the 90's. Also some temp spikes on core 0 during Aida64 stress test.  I will redo it eventually and try to get a better fit when flipping the motherboad to screw the heatsink.

Firestrike Ultra loop (graphics 2) GPU at 67, before 74....so in line with expectation, since pascal GPU doesn't cool as much with LM as the CPU.

Pics of the SC17 1080 model.

Prep work....used kapton tape on CPU because the die is not very high and the 33+ eletrical tape was too thick, which might not give proper contact between the die and heatsink.  Kapton is thinner so opted for that.   Used 33+ for the GPU which has a higher die.

Vitas, the screws you remove to repaste, were only the one numbered on the 1080 model? And did you remove from 14-0, and to reapply the heat sink the other way round? Seems similar pattern with the 1070 model ( mobo apart).

The 1070 model the screws are on top, while on the 1080 there are on the other side of the motherboard.  8 screws on mine (1-8), not sure what your question is though?

Cosch, are you referring to the heatsink screws with the springs?
This what it looks like on mine.  1-8.

I tightened them 1-2, then 5-6, then 3-4, then 7-8.  Tiny turns in that sequence until all them were tight, took several times in that order.  This to have a good balanced pressure across the GPU and CPU.

Very interesting thank you so much for sharing but I searched online alot and I want your opinion seems like liquid metal actually bonds with pure copper (not nickel plated as our laptop) heatsinks ?

have you had any experience with that before ? our laptops are rare and I don't want to screw something up and not able to replace the heatsink later ....

Bare in mind the bond with copper is not like aluminium its much lesser and some people say its okay ...so I dont know :/ I really want to do it but I am scared :(

The risk is with aluminum, it will "melt" it in days.  LM does bind with copper but doesn't degrade it, it just stains the copper, but does not affect the integrity or performance over time.

Yeah I just wanted to know, the way you put the heatsink again. If in a crossed pattern ( like you did), or just tighten the screws a little bit one by one. Because I'm experiencing weird CPU temp, and might be a pressure problem on two of the cores.

Wonder why the heatsink on the 1080 model is screwed from the other side of the board like a graphic card lol. The 1070 model is so much easier to work with.

From what I've been reading online the liquid metal will discolor the copper and the die wont be as shiny as before but there is no drop in temps/cooling capacity of the heatsink.

The risk is with aluminum, it will "melt" it in days.  LM does bind with copper but doesn't degrade it, it just stains the copper, but does not affect the integrity or performance over time.

I am still scared but man those temps make me wanna do it NOW I mean this will make the laptop almost silent during gaming and much improve performance !

You guys are hardcore for attempting this! I'm not ready to open mine up and don't really feel the need to.
