If my 7900 GTO that had a lifetime warranty stops working, what does it get replaced with?

I always wondered how a lifetime warranty for hardware works when that hardware is no longer made. I know they just replace with an equivalent, but jeez, after 10 years the "equivalent" would have to be the slowest card they make at that time would obviously would be an upgrade, but not useful in any way for current games.

That's not at all how it works. Cards are replaced according to performance, not value when you bought it. You are simply guaranteed equal or greater performance. You are not entitled to a RTX 3070/3080 so you can get that fantasy right out of your head.

Most companies would tell you that "lifetime" means the reasonable life expectancy of the product, not "forever until hell freezes over and beyond" lol. That card was launched in October 2006, so you're really pushing it, but hey, if you don't ask, the answer is always no, right? Worth a shot. EVGA may help you out... and if they do, count yourself extremely lucky, because even EVGA has limits. As others have mentioned, any replacement is with equal performance, or better if nothing else is available. Ohhh I just realized who you are.. well ok, your expectation doesn't surprise me now.

Do modern tech products even have "lifetime" warranties? Any modern card that I have checked have in between 2 and 3 years at most.

I had a super old 560 ti that obviously wasn't made anymore. They replaced it with a 950. So you'll probably get some level of an upgrade, but not anything good

I had a 260 Core 216 (from 2009) that was replaced with a 760 in 2017 and then THAT was replaced with a 970 in 2019. The CS Rep said it is a LIFETIME warranty, even on replacement cards that are sent (I'm actually on my 6th replacement card but thats because a few died within a few hours to within a month after install). Granted, nowhere near top tier for replacement but you will get something very capable.

Not anymore, but EVGA used to sell two versions of their products, one with a standard warranty and one with a lifetime, with the lifetime warranty only being marginally more expensive. I havent bought a new card in 12 years but I am in the market for a new 3070 now.
