Same boat as you running a 65" 4k does fine. I'm really looking at that 3080ti but I know I can't afford it.

lol this ancient card still has life and spunk in it, if you ever want to spend money, just watercool and overclock it

I wonder if it is VRAM related or GPU core related or even PCB components related.

DLSS is probably going to be a gamechanger or the AMD equivalent. I would stick with the 1080ti until mining is over.

Same boat, I feel like this card will last a lot longer though, had mine for I believe 5 years now and its still great.

if you take care of your card it can last forever; i experienced just 1 card failing in all my life and that card was old

for older cards, id recommend to just upgrade and overclock it, it is cheaper in the long run considering how expensive the 30 series gpu's are, you will have a better time just getting the performance now and getting more later

1080 Ti is really good for 1080p Ti

If you keep playing the same games you do now potentially for as long as your card lives. If you like new graphically intensive games though a few more years.

Lifespan? Until it dies.  Like others here, still running mine with a Hybrid cooler... stays below 55C even on MSFS 2020 with low speed fans on the rad.

I love my 1080 Ti SC2 hybrid. It's hands down the best hardware I've ever owned. But my hobby is game dev, and with emerging technologies like RTX ray-tracing and Unreal Engine 5's new lighting system, I feel obliged to upgrade. Still debating though ...

The age of my 1080 ti has me adding myself for a queue for a 3080ti. I dont like to run GPU's over 3 years odd for pure gaming use. (after a while I find bugs and faults)

I also have that same laptop that I still use for almost the exact same purpose. At get-togethers I have it run my music streaming service and guests can add songs to the queue.
 
I still use the two that I got some time ago for everything. They've even come in handy for some compute workloads as well with accelerating some quantum mechanical DFT packages. I don't think I'm ready to replace them with anything new yet since they'll even play cyberpunk at 1080p without any trouble and I only have 1080p monitors. I've only had to do general maintenance on them like repast them and clean out and refill the hybrid AIO on one of the cards since its cold plate got gummed up with corrosion somehow. I like to pull them from the system every thee months or so to blow out the dust.
 
I've always stretched my flagship card lifetimes out and have gotten away with it ever since my GTX 295 which served up until I replaced it with a GTX 780 Ti. Remarkably, my old GTX 780 Ti has proven useful still although it got me to get on the waitlist for a new RTX card. That 780 Ti has the blower style cooler on it so it essentially thermal throttles a few minutes into games but better coolers are all over the used market for next to nothing. I may have to just upgrade the cooling on it until the GPU prices and supply issues are resolved.
