Hey guys. I have had some boot problems with with the gpu instead of booting normally ( master bios ) , would boot with only 2 fans registering to x1 and fans stuck at 100% , 3 red leds on near pwoer conenctors and all rgb leds off. So i have flashed the 2080 ftw3 mcu update by evga  . X1 after this forces me to flash bios when it first boots . x1 info shows 90.04.0B.80.78 as current bios version. Why doesn it update to .79 and where can i find .79 to flash it ? cant find it anywhere

Is that FTW3 update just for the FTW3 card or does it include the ultra version?  I always thought it was just for the FTW3 card only.

Cool GTX i did everything as you said. After the boot, when i started x1 it still prompted me to update icx2 firmware, i opted for no instead of updating and x1 booted. But on info the current bios version is .78 . On techpowerup gpu bios, it states that 2080 ftw3 ultra latest bios is .79 . I cant seem to find anywhere the .79 from evga.
Note ( although i have .78 installed, x1 prompts me to update icx2 firmware, even if i press update, it still stays on .78 , , does x1 just flash .78 version again for some reason ? )

Re: Latest 2080 ftw3 ultra bios 2019/10/20 00:55:14 (permalink)
That updates the firmware for the fans and LED lighting only nothing to do with bios. If it wanted to update your firmware it knows you need the newer firmware and installs the correct version. If it still tried to update the firmware you don't have the newest or correct version for your card. If you have the newest px1 installed open it, click the little circle in the lower right corner by the version, when it opens click where it says update, then a list of firmware files will appear, click your correct card and newest firmware file from the list. As far as the bios being 1 digit off that is not an issue, it's normal. Some same model cards might have a slightly different component on the PCB therefore the bios number might change.

I use the latest x1 1.0.1 . There is no update option on the info tab. I have used the correct mcu update, and reinstalled x1 and it updated again the icx2 firmware, the boot problem persists, there is a 50-50 chance of a problematic boot.

Have you Tried ---> shut down, unplugged PSU from wall & [all items with their own power source], hold start button 20 -30 sec - to fully discharge the capacitors -- then plug back in and restart ?

Do you have ---> Windows 10 Fast Startup OFF, when upgrading drivers, firmware or hardware ?

yes

no , i tried setting it to off  , lets see, but after an email exchange with EVGA_JacobF it seems i will have to proceed with an rma since it is a known issue of some early cards. Will see how it goes.

Allow me to help you. I had the same issues in the past and EVGA tech support never helped so I had to figure it out by myself.
Follow these steps:
1.-Make sure you are using separate PSU power cables
2.- Go to your power settings on the BIOS and look for ErP (this is how it is called on Aorus motherboards), read your manual and look for a setting that disables all power when turned off. Apparently these cards will go to failure mode if they are kept with low voltage or standby voltage. That worked for me and never got those 3 red lights again.
I'm not 100% sure but this issue is related somehow to the ramp up voltage curve on the PSU, a lot of people reported it in the past with EVGA and Corsair PSUs, by any chance do you have one of this?

Keep us posted if that worked.

Yes the psu is a corsair rmi 750. Thanks for your information, will definitely do this and report back the results.

Found it , all my ErP settings were on disabled by default.
Edit : okay from what I get the fully powered down happens when erp is enabled right ? The bios doesn't really clarify what it does in enabled or disabled , just states what the option does.

When ErP is enabled it prevents certain things like keyboards, mice, usb ports, etc from being activated when the pc is turned off in order to save energy when your PC is off.

I don't see it making a difference. You need to do what EVGA_JacobF said and start an rma.

Run some tests, turn on the pc and then turn it off immediately, that will prove if it worked.
That trick worked for me, never got the 3 lights again.
Did I mention that I got a replacement card because the first card did the same as the second one and it got fixed when I changed those settings on the BIOS?

Okay, so I did 10 cold boots in order to test this, it didn't happen for now. Based on the aprox. 50-50 chance i have observed it should have definitely occurred on 10 boots.  Will see how it goes and post an update in a couple of days. I usually just do one boot/day since the pc stays on for the most part. So it might take a while to occur again, if ever. Btw erp solved another problem that i had and never bothered to find a solution, my bloody mobo rgb stayed On during S5. Now it wont . yay !
