I was wondering if anyone could shed any light on this issue I am having. So I have security footage from my home I am trying to view but I cant get the software to run properly right now. Trying to view the file from to backup drive but it is a .LXA file. What type of file is this and how can I view it out side of the software decoding it for me? I am completely out of idea at this point and it seems the google searching is useless for this file type. It does not exist anywhere. Thanks in advance.

It is most likely a standard mpeg video with additional encoding or encryption on top. If VLC media player won't open it, I think you will probably need to use the security camera software.

http://fileextension.info/file/lxa   If you have to just get a converter and convert it to a file extension you want like mpg4 etc....  My mom had a Kodak digital camera that could only use there software to open the picts it took, what a pain that was, so its def possible that you might have to just use the software that came with it.
.lxa is a Microsoft speech engine file called Lexicon, if that helps ya.

    ^^Most generic advice ever! lol

He does not have Microsoft Speech Engine files. The extension sometimes means nothing.

You see, the problem is that the LXA file is not an established video extension and he will not find a converter specific for it. My advice is to try opening it with VLC media player since VLC usually tries its hardest to play anything with any codec available regardless of advertised extension.

And, as said, if that fails, try to get the original security camera software working. What's wrong with the security camera software?
