Got my golden ticket yesterday and 3080 coming next Tue but now I see 3080ti coming in Jan ‘21 and wondering if I should wait. I heard CoD is already beyond specs of 3080. Thoughts?

You waited over 2 months for the ability to pick up 3080. If all else will be equal, you'll be looking at March '21 assuming the cards ever get released in January, and you will be able to sign up for notification quickly enough, beating all boots.

Guess I will wait for my 3090 notify and skip over the 3080ti this generation.  I need Valhalla, Legion, and Cold War looking their best NOW and Cyberpunk in a few weeks.  Thanks for reality check.

Since the 3090 is about 7-10% better than the 3080 I would expect the 3080ti to be at most 5% better.   IMO there is no reason to go beyond the 3080 unless you just want to be able to brag mine is slightly better to other people.  Save the $800 diff and next year get the 4080 then  give a friend your old 3080.

If the Ti hasn't been confirmed I wouldn't wait around. I'm going through a similar dilemma right now with the air cooled 3080 vs. hydro copper. My time stamp in the queue is about 2.5 hours away for the air cooled, and at least I know that the hybrids are going to be offered in December. The issue is how are they going to be offered, and how hard will it be to even get on a queue. I don't mind waiting, but this is one of those bird in hand situations. I could cancel my auto-notify for the air cooled 3080 that I am probably < 2 weeks from getting and gamble on another queue that doesn't even exist at the moment. Not only that, but it might be nearly impossible to join if EVGA puts a cap on it like they did with the Kingpin.

    edit...

If the Ti has been confirmed though and you really want the card, I would wait. But then again, by the time the Ti comes out they might drop the price on the 3090. You never know. If you need the extra RAM I would get a 3090.

Well, you'll be waiting for months longer when the TI comes out unless you're VERY quick at getting one when they release.

By the time the Ti comes out, if at all, we'll be nearing the 4000-series

Why not keep the 3080 and apply for step up on January?

Correct...at the ways stock levels are now, the 4000 series will be announced before stock levels are normalized.

I got a 3090 just for the amount of ram.  I believe games will start to use much higher textures that will quickly fill the VRAM. I'm basing my assumption off of RE2. When I cranked up the textures, it exceeded my 2080Ti's VRAM by 2.5GB.

Keep the 3080 and sell it when the 3080Ti is widely available.

I think the 4000 series will be launched in 2022.  Maybe in 2023.

Just enjoy your new card and if 3080Ti will indeed be released in January 2020 you can always use step-up :)

4000 won't coming out next year not till 22 would be my guess. I think it'll take 6 months for the current gen to catch up and become more readily available. I've heard enough rumors to suggest 3080 ti is real. Looks like same cores as the 90 but slightly slower speeds with memory etc., the vram discussion with 20 vs 24 isn't even relevant, but the price difference could make it a great value proposition. Depends on your situation, do you need/want something soon vs are you a value chaser and do you have buyers remorse.

Would depend on the availability of the ti and how much you decide to sell your 3080 for. If the ti is scarce (most likely case) and you manage to get one (🤷‍♂️) then you could recover your investment.

If ti isn't as hard to come by then 3080 will lose value. Its a risk but you could look at the very slight risk as what you pay to enjoy something no one else really has for now :)
