Older tech, for the most part, isn't all that much worse than newer tech for the last 8 or 9 years. Being the hdd is the slowest thing in the chain, changing that to a ssd of some sort can have drastically good results on your build. You put the effort in and you will reap the rewards Knight.

do you want redundancy or do you want size? My last RAID was strip with two 500 gb for a total of 1 TB. Back then, the price was better to get two. As far as redundancy, either back up your main drive on something else or use mirror. Just make sure if you ever stop using the raid and go onto a new build, Disassemble the RAID array in the boot up software before taking everything apart.

With sticking to only using the Intel 6 x SATA 3Gb/s port(s) for OS and Storage drives, Id be open to using the Marvel for the DVD-Drive. Can you do two different raids with the Intel ICH10R controller? With only wanting to use the Intel sata ports, and the 3Gb/s limit, would using more then two sdd's in raid0 make much of a difference? And Id be fine with just using 1-3 2TB HDD's for a backup/NAS. https://www.asus.com/Moth...6X58DE/specifications/ Example: 2 SAMSUNG 860 Pro 512GB 2.5_SSD RAID0 2-3 HDD's RAID1 or Softraid, or backup software

I'd only use the Marvel for port for an internal/external DVD drive or storage. If you decide to raid SSDs (two) this will result in some increased speed. Don't forget to backup often.

I have had good luck with the blues and also black's myself. If you watch Newegg email's or Amazon, you can find some nice deals.
