We can rebuild her........

Above picture of my parents place, off the front porch, and where I grew up at.

The system survived being shipped halfway cross the country, but the X58 is showing its age.   With the wife and I starting fresh here in Arkansas, its a good new beginning for us as a new couple and starting a family .  This rebuild will need to last me a few years or more, cant spend alot on this rebuild, but the new parts needs to count too.

Not sure about the water fittings, diff want a permanent drain in the loop,  will be CPU only at first, if I do add a GPU to the loop Ill just add another 120 rad on the rear fan exhaust. Down the road I will replace the GTX_980. Feedback is welcome and will also be my first water build...

EDIT: So, my monitor didnt make the trip from Oregon, out of warrenty anyways, looking for a decent IPS at 1440P with DisplayPort?
AOC Q3279VWFD8  31.5 1440/75Hz (link) ATM its $250 from B&H

Cool that you're going to Re-build it .

If you want to save some money, you could cut down the ram to only 16 gigs & drop the water cooling parts ( expensive) and swap that for AIO cooling unit on the processor .
And possibly even downgrade the motherboard to a X470 or B series , since you aren't using the PCIe 4.0

Good luck, either way .  Enjoy !

Can you even update the X470 BOIS to run a Ryzen 3, without having an older cpu?

Good luck on the build. I am really thinking about building my first custom loop. With this community its making me feel more confident to take the plunge. just trying to decide on doing custom loop now on the old Devils Canyon for experience and not risking new hardware or to go all in a new build.

    Steve,

Looks like its a year old, maybe some great BOIS updates and a more seasoned solid motherboard?

For $200 looks nicer than what ya get with the X570 vs $$$, talked to Asrock, and there’s options if ya get an older X470 Taaichi if you happen to get a bois that doesn’t support Ryzen3. Ill look at a cheaper 2x8GB_LowCL/3GHz kits.

Tattude69, I learned to build my first full custom build here in the eVGA forums. I’ve been here 10 yrs now, been through a lot myself, the community here is very helpful, along with some overly opinion dudes but just take those opinions with a grain of salt. Also check out Modmymods, their super old school, and highly recommended them for your watercooling needs.

BTW, watch of for Sir Spam-a-lot, calls him self RJ...... 🙂

If a 45 mm radiator would fit .. go with that or even better a 60mm radiator (thickness impacts cooling)

420 mm radiator  (3x140mm) has even more capacity to move heat - if it fits

Near lowest point of your loop ..... add a "T" fitting - add a valve (if you like) & fitting for the hose - get a Plug - Even if you get a valve to make sure nothing leaks

Use [3/8 by 5/8] - OR - [1/2 by 3/4] soft tubing ----> Always use heavy wall tubing - less likely to collapse -

3/8 tubing will be easier to use - taking less room for bends

I like to use EK fitting .... they have worked for me

Use the top of your Reservoir as a place to fill the loop - you can run a fill line to the top of PC if you want to a fill plug

Always use hose clamps on barb fittings - the tubing Will swell under pressure & heat a Can come off the barb if not clamped

I hope you enjoy your new project Knight. Those hose clamps you listed look nice, just make sure you buy the right size. Most of the major fittings will be fine: EK, Bitpower, Barrow, Koolance, Alphacool, ect. I agree with going 16Gb, you could always add another kit{matched} when $$ permits. I hope you and the wife are doing well with the new move.

Handy way to join tubes  & pass through case: EK-AF Pass-Through G1/4 - Nickel

EK-AF FillPort G1/4 - Nickel - works to make a "fill tube" that you remove - or permanent mount

If the clamp will not be seen - Stainless worm clamp - not too wide - so it sits in the groove - between last barb & the end of fitting with threads

Some people have used zip ties to squeeze the hose on the barb fittings --> I'm not a fan - Not all that secure IMO

Fittings that are viewable - use this type - EKWB EK-ACF Compression Fitting for Soft Tubing, 10/16mm (3/8" ID, 5/8" OD), Nickel, 4-Pack

     EK-AF Ball Valve (10mm) G1/4 - Nickel - Optional, it does Help

    lEK-AF T-Splitter 3F G1/4 - Nickel     Install the drain at 90 to the flow

Bitspower Sealing Plug For 3/8" ID Tube  - plug for drain - use a Clamp

How do compression fittings hold up? Id rather just use the same type of fittings through out the case?

Notfordman, The move was not fun, but its good to be home, wife loves it down here. Be nicer once things settle and get back to a normal for us.  Bend Oregon was just costing us too much to live, at least down here we can afford our own land down the raod, maybe our own small farm.

The "outer" knurled "ring" is the external clamp & has internal (female) threads.

    Slide "ring" onto the hose
place hose onto the barb of the Installed fitting ---> the largest diameter of fitting - has male threads for the "ring"

Now slide and turn "ring" --> it threads onto the fitting --> Hand tight

This "ring" stops the hose from expanding & coming off of the barb

There are different brands & designs -- these have a "Carbon Fiber look"

Im thinking CPU only right now, for the watercooling "unless the Alphacool 240x86 Monsta Radiator can cool the cpu and GPU" & add a single 120 rad at the exhaust fan to the mix for the GPU later on? If I do add a GPU with watercooling, Id most likely just buy a stock gpu with the waterblock installed like EVGA's Hydro Copper, then add the single 120rad at the exhaust if the 240x86mm rad wasnt enough. But right now, thats way down the road as far as my cash goes...
