Could be caused by an unstable gpu/vram. Do #4 listed here and report back if underclocking the card helps resolve the issue or not.

Just realized I didn't mention that I'm running a 980ti - just an fyi.  It was a fresh install but I removed it yesterday so reinstalling now.  I just said 2016 since that's when the screenshot was taken.  No I haven't had this in any other games that I've been playing.  I'll try the steps above once the games installed.

I tried the debug mode and msi afterburner.  Still happening though.  It's a little odd the way it happens.  I spent about an hour flying around the whole world/island and the only place it seems to happen is in the single large city area in the world.  Lots of tall buildings, big bridges, etc.  In addition it doesn't happen right away.  I'll be flying around for several minutes before something *clicks* and graphics start acting up.  When they are visible it's only from a certain angle.  As I move around I have to adjust where I'm looking to make it reappear.  As far as the game crashing I don't think it's related to these graphics issues.  There's been lots of discussions about the game on the Steam forums in relation to both of these problems with lots of ideas thrown around.

Sounds like it's just a game issue.

It's not your card, it's the game. Turn off decals in the graphics settings. It's a bug that cropped up around the 310(?) version drivers I think.

Also, PhysX can cause issues like this.
    Turning it off might help.

Well turning of the physx and decals didn't work either.  Anyone else here have this game and be able to try and duplicate it?  Also I'm starting to wonder if it could be the cpu somehow..
