If you want to hit 4.9-5ghz on most 7700ks unless you have a better thermal compound under the lid then I did be ready for it to be a valcano or need a delid

True that.
At 5Ghz, deppending on your airflow and cooling solution, you might see it goes to 100ºC.

Then should i change up the case then? Seems the x340 elite does not support push/pull config on the 280mm aio. Apparently the cover bar for the motherboard wire passthru is in the way.

Push pull for s340 won't be possible, on the front, because of the cable management bar.
Altought, Push/Pull for the 1080TI is possible on the exhaust slot, like in the picture below.

Since you're going to get the 7700K, just read out an email from newegg, and it is costing 310 bucks at the moment.
https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117726&cm_re=i7_7700k-_-19-117-726-_-Product
That's a nice discount over the original price tag.

Re: I've got a 1080 ti SC2 Hybrid and $1000. (help me build a computer) 2017/09/22 13:39:02 (permalink)
Been looking around all day checking stuff out. I did jump on the cpu sale though, and picked up the 7700k at $309 free shipping. First part of the build!! (And i do plan on delidding the darn thing) So after looking at many specs and reviews, and trying to decide if i want to keep branding the same, or atleast as much as i can without sacrificing performace. I think im leaning towards the H110i 280mm cpu cooler or the H115i 280mm cpu cooler (trying to figure out if one is actually better then the other). Probably the Corsair Vengence ram (3200 or 3400), the Evga SuperNova 750 g2 power supply, and throw some extra corsair fans on the gpu and cpu radiator where i can, for some push pull, and a fan to exhaust out the top. I am still undecided on the motherboard or the case. ( to many choices and options ) Although the Nzxt s340 elite case i like is on sale right now as well for $89. The problem i found with that case though is that i would not be able to put push pull fans on the front radiator due to the cable managment bar. (also i think it only has cutouts in the top of the case for one exhaust fan (120-140mm) So should i just forget this case (i do really like the case) or just take the cable management bar out and find/make an alternative cover to replace it that does'nt flare like the stock one at the top? Also still need input on good motherboard, and i guess now cases.  Case budget target: I would like to keep it under $140, and Motherboard budget target: i would like to keep in or under the mid $200's. I do appreciate all the feedback so far, and it has been very helpful. But i still have a long way to go. This weekend will be alot of researching and ordering....

Was looking at the ram and seeing what was avaliable. I found some corsair vengeance rgb 3466mhz. So my question is, if i already plan on delidding my 7700k and overclocking it, will this high of a mhz ram affect me being able to overclock my cpu to a certain extent? I believe i have heard that increasing the memory speed also has an effect on the cpu clock or frequency???

Yea i ended up going with the 3000mhz speed trindent z. From what i could see, most people who are overclocking the 7700k are going with 3000mhz. But anyways i guess all my choices are now set in stone (to a degree) I have sat infront of my screen for the past two nights strait researching and ordering parts. So.....  now everything is ordered!!! Im getting excited.
So here is the final parts list, all ordered and on the way. Looks like everything will be here by next weekend, and im going to have some building to do. :)

Yea, not a fan of the white builds either, that's why i moved away from the gigabyte aorus.
But very pleased with the board i ended up ordering. I think this build is going to end up very nice!

Ok so with this being my first build, i really wanted to future proof it a little more then buying a z270 motherboard and sticking what could potentially be the last cpu made for that board in it.
Soooo, i sent the cpu and motherboard back to jump on the coffee lake train. Considering it's dropping next week and close enough to what i spent on a 7700k anyways. Why not take 2 extra cores and more Mhz?
But most of my parts did start trickling in. Got a little pile started. Now just a little extra waiting to get a 8700k and z370 board.

Ah, sorry you had to send the parts back. Was definitely going to suggest waiting for Coffee Lake at this point given the confirmed Oct 5th date and the incompatibility with Z270 boards. The drawback is EVGA may not have launch day boards as they are still struggling to get X299 out the door, you may have to pick a different mobo manufacturer.

Alright! finally got all my parts and some build time in! Got it put together, still have a couple cables to tidy up and case to put back together (side and front panels)
But everything started right up, no problems, no issues as of yet.
Got windows installed and ran some benchmarks to check things out. I'll get some pictures of the build up soon but here's some screen shots from the bench marks I ran.
All totally stock, just installed windows, updated windows, and installed graphics driver.
I also ran prime95 for 30 minutes, it passed all test it ran in that time with no errors.  The highest it hit on one core was 84, one hit 82, and all the rest of the cores stayed under 79.
This was only one short part of the test that got the cpu that hot. Most of the time it was between 60-70c.   (one small side note, the motherboard by default enables 4.7ghz on all cores, I left this option on)

Damn.
That CPU is rock solid man.
But, as I was expecting, it runs very hot.
So I will definitly going to delid that little beast.

Re: I've got a 1080 ti SC2 Hybrid and $1000. (help me build a computer) 2017/10/23 04:44:00 (permalink)
Yes, it did run a little hotter then i wanted at first. But i had not tuned any of the fans.
After attempting to do some manual overclocking, set memory speed, try Ocing cpu, i could'nt get it stable. It keep crashing on cinebench.
I did the auto tune for water cooling in the motherboard bios settings lastnight and it did an auto-clock of 5ghz on the cpu and 3000mhz on the ram.
After tuning the fans, and doing the 5ghz overclock and ram speed, It never went over 76c and i have not delided yet.
I almost wonder if the stock thermal paste needed to be warmed up and few times to settle nicely, not only on the aio/ihs connection,
but also internally in the cpu between the die and the ihs.
What ever the case may be, it is nice and quiet, and seems rock solid at this point. I will be deliding soon, figured i'd make sure everything worked first.

What are a few good benchmarks, cpu stress test to check the OC and make sure it's stable?
Cinebench seemed to be the one that let me know the quickest if it was going to run stable or not.

Cinebench is the first option when it comes to CPU benchmark.
But there is Prime95 (http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/prime95-download.html);
SiSoft Sandra (http://www.sisoftware.eu/download-lite/);
PCMark08 (https://www.futuremark.com/benchmarks/pcmark8)

Prime95 should test very well your O.C. stability.

Finished and Side panel off. It really hard to take a good picture thru glass and with lights on lol...

I do still have cable mod cables coming for gpu and 24 pin.

And here is cinebench results. It actually keep getting worse till i tuned in the overclock on this last one. (1547 was the out of box non-overclocked first run)

Which color of cables did you ordered?

Woah.
Awesome.
Do you have the TimeSpy Extreme to benchmark as well?
Timespy Extreme have one heavy CPU benchmark dude.

Will be an amazing build with those sleeved cables.

Not yet.
Since I'm from Brazil, my CPU is going to a warehouse in Miami first, only then it will come to South America (Paraguay to be more precise, since it's my neighbor country).
But should arrive today in the warehouse.

I will try to grab the same mobo as you on the Black Friday.
Or, at least the Z370-I (not going to wait for this round of EVGA MB).

Yea i forget some of the troubles you guys in other countries have to go thru to get new tech.

How long till you think you have yours in hand? Are you doing a new build or just updating an existing build? Is it for gaming or production?

The main reason i went with the Maximus x hero is not only did it get good overclocking reviews, but the vrm cooling on the hero board (according to reviews) works alot better then others.

Aside from the Corsair H115i not showing proper in the device manager (yellow exclamation point beside it in device manager) and i tried to fix it, i have absolutly no problems.
It runs fine now, can't hear it, at 100%. Not sure if i want to install corsair link as people say it causes problems.
Now to decide when im going to delid. I think i might get some destiny 2 under my belt first (releasing today at 1:00) before i potentially fubar my new cpu.
