Hello all,
Today is a sad for me... I'm not here to complain, report an issue, or anything of that nature.  Today I created an account for the sole purpose delivering praise in memoriam.

Early this morning (as of 04:00 EST) a faithful, hardworking friend passed away.  The EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS card I bought back in 2007 passed away.

I cannot say enough about this GPU.  For ten years this GPU has gave me the finest gaming experience I could ever ask for in a card.  And for ten years the quality, durability, and strength of the 8800 GTS withstood the test of time.  Since the day I inserted the card in a PCI express slot, plugged in my monitors, and hit the power button on my tower I was given the best gaming experience of my life. I have put that card through a lot over 10 years and not once did it fail me.

Because of this EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS card, I have since built several computer; for friends and family and one for myself, and have had complete confidence when I placed an EVGA product in the tower that I was choosing the best of the best.
Because of that one card, I have come to trust in the name EVGA and use any component that bears that name when given the choice. Thank you, EVGA, for delivering quality products that truly stand out above all other.

So, with a heavy heart, I bid adieu to my GPU friend: EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 640-P2-N821-AR, thank you for your 10 wonder years!

    Welcome to the Forum Havokus
From you older card I would look at EVGA GeForce GTX 1050 or EVGA GeForce GTX 1050Ti for the Cost.
EVGA GeForce GTX 1060/1070 if your computer can handle it.

With your GPU being one of the lifetime warrantied units, what did EVGA say when you asked about RMA'ing it? Is it out of its life cycle?

I don't want to send it in...
As crazy as it sounds, I'm gonna mount it in a glass case and keep it. :D

Oh man, another great oldie but goodie...... the 790i ultra mobo. I have a 780i FTW with mine. I never went to the 790i cause I figured id just wait for the next release ,but Nvidia decided to call it quits. So I just stuck with my trusty 780i till Sandy Bridge. Anyway, I guess you could always bake the card if you wanted to try and get it running again IF you don't want to RMA it and its already dead. You have nothing to lose at that point.

RIP - the 8800GTS was a monster, I owned 4 of the 512GB G92 versions. 2 died still have them. along with a 9800GT, still have a working 9800GTX+ as well..
too bad on-board Z170 beats them now in some ways.

    Also:
Why the 6700K, and not the 7700K? last I looked prices were the same.
    Also I would prefer a single 1080TI vs 2 1070.
you will use up all 16 lanes on that CPU with 2 cards.

I had a GTX 280 SSC 1GB from 2009 that died in 2012 and was reborn through RMA into a GTX 560Ti 1GB which then died in 2016 and was reborn through RMA into a GTX 950 2GB. This had been in my wifes computer and when the GTX 950 came back I used that to build my daughters computer and bought the wife a Gigabyte Extreme Gaming OC GTX 1060 6GB.
