Ok I know this may sound weird and stupid but I need help. So today I was cleaning my computer with my compressed air canister and it has a tube that connects to it. That tube is used to make the air go into a certain direction. (sorry im bad at explaining things). Well that tube disconnected as i was spraying my psu to get rid of dust and the tube fell in the psu. I was freaking out. What should I do? The tube is so far in the psu that its not touching the fans and the tools i used to try to wank it out wont work. My psu is an Evga Supernova 650w gold edition. I already turned my computer on the psu and everything sounds fine I just want to know if its safe to keep it on because i dont want to damage anything.  Also should I open the psu? I don't really know what im doing or what to expect when i open it because i heard i shouldn't open it if i don't know what im doing. Also the picture I used is a picture of that tube thing im talking about.

You should not open the psu, as the capacitors in there are said to be oretty awesome and store a good bit of power. Pull the cables from the pau, pull the psu from the case, and turn it over and dump the tube out. If it doesnt fall out, get it close enough to grab it with some needle nose pliers.

Another option would be a computer store. They would probably charge you $20 to do the steps above though. Just dont drop the psu.. that would be bad for its health, lol.

I think having it opened period though voids warranty, so even then I would not take it to a store.

It would for sure. There is always a screw with the do not remove tamper/sticker on it. I would try what Scarlet has suggested. Can you remove the 4 fan grill screws without tearing a sticker up? Also as noted the PSU can store power in the capacitors, and I have heard of people being hurt touching them. Extra care should be used. Do you happen to have a parts grabber? Hope you can get it out. It maybe harmless,[I'm not positive] because you stated it's not hitting anything.

You can shock yourself if you open a PSU that has been energized before hand. Plus like everyone said, it voids warranty. I also would avoid sticking metal objects in too far, again a shock hazard. Them PSUs can carry a ton of power.

As long as your popular enough, you can get away with anything.

I would do what Scarlet suggests. I wouldn't open it or use anything conductive if you use something to reach for the straw, doing so would be dangerous.

You don't want to shock yourself and damage your PSU.

I wouldn't leave it in there either, just due to the risk of it becoming obstructive, or possibly melting (I'm not sure how hot your PSU runs internally, or at what temps those little straws melt at, but I'd rather not risk it).

Oh....thats unlucky. Personaly i would not open the PSU, the capacitors can store the energie also a pretty long time after the PC was shut down (just like old TVs). How old is your PSU now and how long do you have warranty? If your warranty is over or only a few months are left, then you can give it a try.

Just pull the PSU out and try tipping it over and shaking it...see if the straw falls out.At the least it may make the straw more accessable.
