i bought two evga founders 1080ti, now one of the cards works perfect, infact im pretty sure its a golden sample as i can clock it over 2.5ghz without much effort and it still shows no performance cap reason; the other 1080ti however is a nightmare, it will crash my system within 10mins of gaming and shows Vrel perpetually, thinking it was a power issue i bought a 2k watt psu, with no change in fact the issue shows it self almost instantly now.

im thinking defective card..

I'm sure it is defective. They apparently rushed the Ti's out so fast that they didn't do any real QC or testing. I have a defective Ti as well. I am so mad at evga bc they take forever to get a replacement to me and this should not have happened in the first place.

Uh oh.... I just sent my 1080 Ti FE just today to RMA because my display port outputs was making my screen flask and flicker like crazy.

They claim a 1-3 business day turnaround, is that not true?

As for me I have only high praise for EVGA team with my RMA's and response time and the turn around time to me......

    Welcome to the Forum direwind
You are pushing your Cards On Air @ 2500MHz and expect them to game?
Any Clock over the Boost Clock of 1582MHz is great.
Try running @ 2000MHz and then see how 2100MHz goes.
Your card(s) are fine as long as you can run @ 1582MHz the Boost Clock

    • 1480MHz Base Clock
    • 1582MHz Boost Clock
    • 331.5GT/s Texture Fill Rate
    • 11264MB GDDR5X Memory
    • 11016MHz Memory Clock
    • 484GB/s Memory Bandwidth

    My full spec.
    windows 10 pro
    1 tb nvme drive
    5 1tb stata ssd
    64 gb ddr4 3200hz
    i7 6950x @ 4.5ghz 24/7 stable
    watercooled 2x 1080 ti
cooling, single loop with 2 d5 pump at low speed and flow balanced, 2x480 as main cooling, 2x 360 rad because i had room.
Cpu under full load never hits over 60c
GPU temps never hit over 35c under 2 hours of testing (have not managed to lat 2 hours with the other card installed as its defective)

The issue  is the cards want to boost clock to 1.950ghz at standard settings if i wanted to run at lower i would need to limit the power target, and if i needed to do that then the cards would be a waste of money.

the card with the issue even crashed while opening chrome :(

Are you using K-Boost? Turn it Off/Disable It.
What Tool are you using to Overclock the GPUs to 2.5GHz or 2500MHz? BTW I have not found a single card that can do this ATM that is.
Is this a New Build or replace only the cards if so did you do you remove the Drivers with the old cards installed and the run DDU to clean up and then remove the old cards install the new cards and the Re-set your MB Bios and even Update the Bios?
Did you Re-set the MB Bios back to the Default or Optimized Settings to force a re-read of the PCIe Lanes?

"the card with the issue even crashed while opening chrome :(" This realty makes no since or sound more of a Driver issue and or XOC issue with Chrome.
I am so GLAD I do not use Chrome

What Cards did you have installed before your 1080 Ti Cards?

    Ok, cards were 980ti before.
Windows drive was formatted and Windows reinstalled to a stock image I use with has only new motherboard drivers installed.

The system is not a new build and has been tested and retested rigorously.

I use evga precision to overclock.
    I tested each card independently.
    I tested with 3 psu, a corsair 1200i a evga 1600p and a SuperFlower 2000.

    Cards were tested at stock.

Chrome uses hardware acceleration and uses 1538mhz on gpu unless you set to adaptive, when the card with issue clocks to this level it crashes the system.

The gpu does not draw a stable or clean current, I have checked the connection, it's fine.

I assume the issue is with the power delivery on the card it's self.

As a side note I do not run the other gpu at 2500 24/7 I run it at 2200.

Edit: as standard my boost clock at 120% power target is 1930, so I only use a 300mhz overclock with no voltage added to the gpu, I have tested it with higher, but I didn't see the point of an overclock this high.
The card with issue can't even manage power targets of 100%

Chrome uses hardware acceleration. Turn it off I do in IE and FF This is also a Know Issue and Chrome need to correct it.

It sound like you pulled the 980 Ti Cards out and put in the 1080 Ti, is this what you did?
That is no clean up of the older drivers.

    Ok then,
After you did this did you uninstall the Windows 10 NVIDIA Driver(s) Version and the run DDU to Clean up and then install Driver Version 378.92?
Still Applies Chrome uses hardware acceleration. Turn it off I do in IE and FF This is also a Know Issue and Chrome need to correct it.

To be honest, that is the highest clock I have heard of. I can be pretty sure in saying that the stability issues you are experiencing are due to an unstable GPU offset.

The performance cap should be indicating a limitation of some kind. I agree with bcavanaugh that you should run DDU in case there is a misreading or error with the drivers.

If you have a moment, please rate my service. We appreciate the feedback!

Yea, that's crazy. Even the Kingpin only got to 2400. I didn't know it was possible for a 1080TI, especially a FE to clock that high. It'd be nice of he showed a pic.
