So I couldn't get any projects to download on 7.4.3 for over a day, downloaded and force installed the new client.

Now I can't get the old advanced control open, any ideas?

Web controls are fine, and the GPUs are actually hard at work again, but it's throwing me off not having the usual tool open.

So if you did a force install I take you didn't end up wiping the old data directories?  I'd suggest doing a clean install of FAH by removing it, rebooting your system, and then installing the newest version.  There have been some issues lately with people not getting GPU work units pending on their DNS settings apparently ie using google.

Did you make any hardware changes around the same time? Will it not open or is it all grayed out?
That happened to me a couple of months ago (grayed out) but that was after I had switched cards around between rigs. I reinstalled and the problem was still there, must have been a config file I couldn't find to delete. So, after driving myself nuts I put the cards back as they were when it worked  and things went back to normal again. Then I removed the slots, shut down and changed the cards to the rigs I wanted them in and then added the slots again.

Did a full uninstall, reboot, reinstall. It didn't like something to do with GOG Galaxy.

Now I've got the client advanced control back up, deleted the CPU slot as usual, have a client that appears to be holding on Update_Core

and they wonder why more people don't start doing this

EDIT: no hardware changes at all, DNS hasn't been adjusted from my ISP and I probably should.

Double EDIT: after perusing the folding forum (god help us all), it seems they've moved a lot of things from stanford.edu to foldingathome.org and some folk are having issues getting cores from that.

Still can't get it going, posted on the reddit since I refuse to use foldingforum since bruce will just lock the topic.

If I can't get this resolved, I'm done.

When you did a clean install, did you check to make sure no directories were left over before reinstalling?
"cores", "work", etc. from (default location) C:-Users-[yourusername]-AppData-Roaming-FAHClient

I've just done that, and it's still failing to start folding.

I absolutely despise this new version trying to grab from a new place on the internet. There wasn't an issue before, and now I have one.

Still doing a bit of testing but this is several days in a row I've now missed on having my system loaded, I've messed with Windows firewall, I've now done a several reboot JUST TO BE SURE clear of every folder and file system associated with Folding that I can personally find... and I'm still just getting

    18:45:08:ERROR:WU01:FS01:Exception: Failed to read stream
18:45:09:ERROR:Receive error: 10053: An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.

I'm absolutely loving the lack of information this provides me.

Just for kicks and giggles, I've even eliminated the double NAT issue that could have been at play and have my rig connected straight to a cable running through the house out of the router as it enters the place.

    No change.

There should be a url just above the failed to reach stream message.
Can you type that into your web browser and successfully connect?

I believe it is the url to download the core, which your browser will initiate.
Then maybe you could manually place it in the cores folder.

Opens immediately. At the moment there is no cores folder, and I can find no documentation of the necessary file structure to place it in an attempt to bypass.

I am doing more reading and it looks like you can't just place it in the correct location, FAHclient must unpack/install it.
I see your frustration as the folding forum locked the relevant threads without any resolution...par for the course from them.

At least we established that your PC can reach the correct url.

If you really are contemplating quitting FAH because of these difficulties, check out the crunching forum.
Using BOINC manager software you can run the GPUGrid project which is very similar to FAH.

Oh congrats on it finally working!  I wonder if it has to do with them changing servers or if the software just really, really sucks. haha.

I had to go in windows defender firewall and allow FAHClient Workaround in the inbound rules. it was blocked. Unsure if that was the one that got me going, but its downloading and running right after.

Not sure if this is the correct spot for the issue I'm having, if not please direct me to the correct one.   I just built a new PC windows 10 64 bit,  GTX 1080ti, G4400 CPU, only folding with the GPU.  Program down loads and acts like everything is OK, until the last box pops up.  Stating that "FAH 7.5.1 in now installed on this PC" or something like that.  "Click Finish to close setup"  Then the box is checked marked next to "Start [link=mailto:Folding@home"]Folding@home"[/link]    But it does NOT open the program to allow me to set up my identity aka Name, team number, etc.   Any ideas?  I've deleted the program and reinstalled in 6 or 7 times tried restarting the PC many times.  Made sure the GPU drivers are installed and up to date.  Even deleted and reinstalled GPU drivers.   Any help would greatly be appreciated.

You say it does open and allow you to set up your identity aka Name, team number, etc.
Just making sure you didn't mean doesn't. Big difference

All my boxes are running mint but prior to switching over I did have one rig that gave an issue under win7 that it would not open from the desktop icon. I had to go to the file and right click the app and run as admin every time I restarted. There were two application files in the folder that I had to start that way, one looked like a terminal window. Had to start it first. Going to reboot that rig in windows now to help me remember

Sorry for the delay, had a loose sata cable preventing raid0 from booting windows. must have knocked it when shoving the 1070 in

I'll try that when I get home, have to leave for work in five minutes.  I looked last night, but I was tired, I don't remember seeing those.  I have 5 other computers running windows 10 with no issues, but they had the old version and just update to the new.  Biggest issue for me is I'm not a software guy, hardware no problem.

I am in the same boat with software lol. Hardware, np.
You probably would get more responses by starting a new thread with the issue, could be wrong. I'm chiming in not as an expert but more so because I am more like the kid on the playground who, if there is a mud puddle anywhere on the property, will come in, covered in mud.
Hopefully that gets it going and one of the gurus here will pick it up if it doesn't .

Yeah I was worried about the OpenCL: not detected.  But I'm not sure how to fix that.   Because I'm the kid on the play ground with the water making the mud puddles.

Reinstall the nvidia drivers for opencl. Every 6 month Microsoft update kills those drivers.

This is a new build, but maybe something got corrupted during the driver install.  When I get home tonight I delete FAH and the Drivers and see what happens.

Good to hear, but sad that it had to go to that route.  It sucks when MS breaks things.  Grab the windowsupdate hide tool, and use it to stop MS from pushing updates to your video card.  It will prevent this from happening in the future.  Well until MS throws a BIG update like a fall update or something.

I think it was something in the original loading of windows.  It was a brand new build, I think something just got corrupted during install.

You could also rid yourself of the windonts all together and switch over to mint like I was talked into here. Wicked Improvement and much less of a pita!
It  was super easy and I do not miss windows at all.
