I've been researching what laptop to get for about 7 months now and keep landing back on the SC17. but when ever i think i'm going to go with it, i keep going back to the amazon page and the posts on this forum about the power supply not lasting more than a few month. I've contacted EVGA directly for my country to see if it's possible to just buy another power supply so i have one spare, which i like to have with all laptops i own anyway. however they don't sell it separately in Australia and they confirm that the one on the US store cannot be shipped to Australia. It would seem that the threads and posts that I've found seem to relate to the 980M version and am wondering if anyone has the 1070 and has had any problems with the power supply? Alternatively are there any third party adapters that anyone is able to confirm works with this laptop? I've been able to find someone who stated that the Dell M6800 supply does work, however I'm not fully convinced as the specs are different, though only slightly. original 19v @ 12.6a vs Dell 19.5v @ 12.3a Again, the official power supply is not obtainable in Australia so I don't really have any other choice than to get a third party one IF the dying power supply issue still persists.

I would talk to EVGA about the warranty support that they would be able to offer on the laptop if it was to be used in Australia.

I already have. the Taiwanese Customer Service team were the ones that told me i would be unable to buy a new one directly from them. They directed me to the Australian distributor who essentially told me i would need to source a third party replacement if i wanted to have a spare myself. I have no doubts that if the supply stopped working EVGA would be able to provide a new one to me, but the amount of time i would take is not exactly appealing. Most comments i have found have stated that the extra 0.5v "shouldn't" cause any issues and the 12.6a noted on the power supply would be it's maximum output current. but since it only seems to draw around 200w at full load there's tons of head room in the supply. I'm not sure if i'm just over analyzing it issue since I've only founds about 3 people who have stated that they had an issue with it, but with such an expensive laptop i can't imagine there's a lot of people with one. so the odds don't instill a bunch of confidence in me.

It has a good warranty and EVGA has awesome customer support. I'd not worry about a backup myself. :)

I've had my SC17 980m for 13 months and the power supply is still going strong.

The first one I received with the machine died after about 3 weeks. I got a replacement under warranty a few days later. I haven't had an issue since. I've had the SC17 since February. If you're thinking of buying one, it's an awesome machine. I'm working on my dissertation and use a lot of different software (R, MatLab, ArcGIS, SQL). I run spatial regressions, perform geoanalysis, make maps, and create databases (12M+records). The SC17 doesn't even blink. It's better on battery for simple tasks than the reviews give it credit for. The screen is beautiful; games look great. You can get one with the 1070 for a discount over when I bought earlier this year. Just remember to register with EVGA, especially if you're worried about the power supply failing.

Hey demo. What specs do you have? CPU, GPU, screen?

No matter what brand I have purchased in the past I always run into a power supply problem with laptops which I believe is due to them getting to hot.
