for non-RTX games at 1080p / medium to high settings - it is still plenty capable

Well 1440p is too much for a 1060, unless you're only playing casual games like League of Legends etc.
Is that 60Hz or 144Hz monitor?

It wasn't ever very relevant for gaming. It was wildly popular because of its price, but it was never great.

If you want to play any newer games you will probally be running low graphics settings

I have a 1060. It works fine for games that I play like Doom Eternal and Apex Legends. I'm not running on max settings or anything but that isn't required to have fun.

I've seen Cyberpunk running on an AMD APU around 20 fps, a 1060 should get respectable frames around 1080p medium. I have a 1070 and average around 50-60 fps at 1080p high.

It depends if you play on full hd, or 2k or 4k; then it depends on the settings in the game and if you need high FPS for triple A games; my personal conclusion: yes, it not a future proof card; I will recommend to go to an RTX if you can find one :)

The type of games does matter as well. Things the big open world rpg's are usually less in need of high frame rates. Competative shooter type games are a different story if you want all the visual perks as well. The 1060 works well enough for The Witcher 3. It does run Cyberpunk 2077 but not it just lacks all eye-candy you would want to play that game for.

I think it certainly is, especially if you're 1080p/60fps. It can do a mixture of high/med settings with pretty good results. And it's great for eSports games at 1080p/60fps+. I gave my 1060 6GB to my relative for his first computer last year, and he's been enjoying it.

I have 1060 6gb version - it works for most online games at 1080. If it lags, I just change the setting to medium. So far other than Cyber Punk 2077, I was able to play all my games with 45fps or more. For CP2077, I had to play it on PS5 instead.

My son is still using my old 970. He plays at 1080, and mostly leaves everything at default. He doesn't complain about frame rate.

Your GPU is much better than mine (GPU with 2GB), but I don't think it is enough for modern games like Cyberpunk or Witcher III so you can enjoy these games. maybe upgrade is coming? :D

At 60 for sure if you lower your settings. I’m running 1050 Ti in desktop and 1060 max-q on my laptop both can run games at 60fps pretty easy. Unless you want to play games like Cyberpunk. My friend played it on 1060 and got like 30-40fps.

For 1080p and 1440p and maybe even 3440x1440 (ultrawide) sure. But my 1070 struggles with 2160p in some games so I think that's the cutoff.

It's still a great card, but it is slowly being shifted out from the competition. In 2 years time it will most likely struggle quite a lot, then again AMD FSR is coming out soon, so maybe it will extend the life of the card a bit more than it would naturally be capable of.
Honestly the 10th gen of cards are the best generation of cards overall in past 10 years in my opinion, so much value.

Plenty capable. Yes, you'll be running closer to 60FPS than to 144FPS, but most titles still run well on this GPU. I run it myself and I can obtain an average FPS of 90 on Warzone all low 100% render res. Lows are 55-60FPS. If you haven't, overclock the card. It helps a lot.
