Whats the best ram for ryzen 3900XT? for gaming

As fast of b-die as you can afford.  The Patriot b-die stuff on sale is the best deal - 4400 mhz kit on sale.

With Ryzens you don't want your RAM stored to exceed your infinity fabric speed, so low latency 3600 ram or 3733 if you wanna adjust your bclk on your Ryzen.

Pretty good article...

Imagine my surprise in hearing that you're supposed to run Ryzen ram at 3,800mhz for best performance.  I'd have to be living a cave to not know that.  I mean, could I possibly be recommending a superior set of memory so it can be manually clocked to 3,800mhz with the timings buried to something like CL14, etc?  Nah.  Totally not that.

Though obviously, if you want to make your life easier and spend more money, just get a G.Skill 3800CL14 Trident Z Neo kit.

Yeah, bummed to see it finally start to become obsolete, but it had a pretty solid run. Definitely want to see how bad the performance hit is in certain games though.

Just got an i7 10700k, so interested to see the upgrade from my 6700k

My old rig is still running decently (sans a good video card).
When I can finally snag a 3080, will my old i7-4790K (4 GHz) be sufficient?
Thanks for advice...

I mean, it would work so maybe get the 3080 and then get a new CPU & MOBO whenever you can afford it. I wouldn't get the 3070 because for the extra ~$200 you are getting a lot. Just my opinion tho... good luck on whatever you choose!

This is my new plan--thanks!  Agree on the 3070.  Gonna wait till black friday for the CPU & MOBO, but as soon as i can get the 3080, I will.

I have an 8700K that I will upgrade next year.   I don't expect it to be an issue with 3080 while I wait on next years cpus to come out.

I just upgraded from a 7700K it was noticeable.  The only game it made a very noticeable difference for me was BFV.
I'm happy with my upgrade though.  See how I feel when Rocket Lake comes out on whether I should have waited.

I hope Intel keeps their word that the Z490 boards are gonna support them.  Intel doesn't exactly have a good track record with carrying over your motherboard.

I haven't owned an AMD since the original Athlon64 that CPU was awesome in its day.

If it makes you feel any better I'm currently upgrading the SSD (for the second time) and installing W10E LTSC on my trusty Samsung Series 3 Laptop, it will be 10 years old next year.

If you run 4k, your cpu only matters about 10%. You could run a cpu older than that and still be fine.
