Hi all,

Just replaced my 1080 Hybrid with the 1080Ti SC2, the fan on the radiator spins fine but the one on the actual card doesn't spin unless i set a fan curve in EVGA Precision X then as soon as i leave the software it stops.

After some googling i saw one comment that this is normal and that the fan only spins if temps hit 60c, can anyone confirm this to be true? I haven't noticed any abnormal temps and right now at idle the GPU 1 temp reading is 25c, played 30 mins of Overwatch earlier and it was around 50-51c.

Thanks.

I would think the fan should be spinning at all times on that card.

EDIT: An EVGA Tech says it's suppose to run at all times.

It did just spin up when i played a game, i actually noticed a bit of noise from the fan, something i never noticed before on my 1080 Hybrid.

If it's meant to spin all the time then what can i do to remedy it? One thing i do remember is when i first launched EVGA Precision it said there was a bios update and to close all 3d applications, i had a game running and i hit 'ok' thinking it would then let me close the application before applying the update, but it seemed to go ahead and do it. Any way i can re-flash the bios to see if it fixes my problem? unless there's something else i can try.

Edit: Just observed the fan when turning the computer on and it tries to move for a second then just stops.

Best thing to do would be to contact evga by phone, and ask them to send you the original vbios for the card.

On the SC2 HYBRID the card fan will only spin when the PWM is hot. So actually under most scenarios it will not spin at all.

Sajin, can you make sure the 'tech' you spoke to sees this, lest misinformation be spread in the future? Shouldn't have to poll the product manager to get correct information on products/behaviors.

Thank you, that clears things up.

Is there no way i can set my own fan curve then? because it appears i can only do that when Precision X is running it gets a little loud when i game, it never heard it once on my 1080 Hybrid.

And is it normal that the PWR 1, PWR 2 etc. sensors run a little hotter than the GPU 1 sensor?

Give NvidiaInspector a Try.

Thanks, i gave it a try and it only gives me the option to change the 'G' (GPU fan) which im assuming relates to the fan on the radiator, which doesn't seem to change no matter what speed you set it to.

The 'P' (Power) fan i believe relates to the fan on the GPU itself and is the fan that gets a little louder as temps increase, this isn't controllable via NVIDIA Inspector.

I think my only option would be to start Precision X with Windows with my own custom fan curve to keep it a little quieter. Not sure what 'Power' refers to on the card itself or how important it is to keep it at a specific temperature compared to the GPU chip itself, which i'm assuming is only effected by the pump and radiator fan.
