Actually I really like the idea provided it actually works and is practical. The glass side window is really cool.

    pine??

solid Hardwood please- not partical board or laminated or plywood

heat will only twist and warp wood and discolor
and a bump will only chip a laminate or MDF board - and make it took disjusting

At least a hardwood wood be resistant to the heat and ages well
and solid wood can be retouched

If you like 70's disco music then it's a perfect fit.

Yep, just hang a motorized mirror ball from the CPU cooler and you're good to go. BTW, I bought a case by InWin and in my opinion their cases are poorly thought out overpriced junk.

Maybe I should send one of those cases to Brad along with some 70's Bee Gees albums so he can 'groove'.

    That looks like garbage.

Actually, I would've had the wood on the sides, and aluminum on the front going over the top. The side panel having a wood frame around the window. Maybe a different color / texture, as I prefer something darker.

No idea how well plywood / particle board would handle the heat.

I'm also confused by the article, as it states there being fan mounts on the top bottom and front, but I only see the exhaust in the back in the image.

You won't find any intake air filters on a InWin case either. Mine is nothing but a giant dust magnet. If a friend had not given me some magnetic 120 mm filters for the front it would be much worse inside.

That is one of the first things I look for in a case. Dust filters are a requirement for me.

I like the wood aesthetic, if it's done right.

and going retro can be done well too:

..just have to make sure it's solid hardwood that won't warp with the heat, and a good coat of lacquer to keep it looking good outside. I've thought about doing something like this, but free time is something I have very little of.

I think if wood was going to work it would have to have a unique look. I would want it to have a retro radio look or steampunk something like what if Tesla was to build a computer case.

The idea as shown will fail since it's a piece of wood which is going to be heavier then aluminum or steel. If it's not really stand as out cool I wouldn't want to pick it up to show off my build at a LAN party since the weight will increase a lot. Also the front seems to lack any fans and I don't see a top or side fan and the wood will insolate the heat. So it kind of looks like it's a expensive case built with looks over functionality.

    it's partical board or MDF

Imagine water in that - rot, black mold

if your gonna do wood do it right with a hardwood or at least Cedar(rot proof) - think of that cedar smell permeating the room

Still not a fan of wood for a PC case, but I have to admit those "retro" cases are OK from a "looks" point of view.
