Basically my old card died last week (of all the times why?!) and I don't have a backup so I have no working PC.  This probably comes across as pretty sad but my mental health has not been good for years and the pandemic plus family moving away has really compounded that, so I'm pretty desperate to get my PC functioning again but I can't find anything online or locally for sale that isn't 2 to 4 times more expensive than the MSRP.  And on top of that part of my mental health struggles is severe OCD that makes used or refurbished an extremely undesirable option.   I know EVGA has a queue system working since the shortages began but from what I've read they could be months long still so that wouldn't help me anytime soon.  Is Newegg Shuffle the only chance at getting a working card at retail price right now?  I'd love any help or ideas if people here know of something I haven't considered.  Thanks for any help or ideas.

Mostly, you are better off buying an entire system from one of the manufacturer system builders - since they get 1st crack at all the new cards .
You can get an entire new system built , for the price of just 1 card off EBAY scalpers.

There are some Twitter or Discord channels that can alert you to 'in stock' stores ,,.. but you literally have less than 2 minutes to get there before bots buy them all up.

Jay Z Two cents agrees with aka_Steve about purchasing a full system.  One caviat...if something goes wrong with the video card and you have to RMA...there may not be stock to replace it with.  The supply is so short...you may have longer than normal waits for replacements

Yeah, I think the best bet is to buy a full system. That way you can at least get a working card for a decent price with everything else included. If you have a microcenter local to you then you could try going early and trying to get a card that way.

Sadly my old card is about 6 or 7 years out of warranty, it was a GTX580.  Buying a whole new system wouldn't be doable financially unfortunately and isn't needed anyway as I had to replace my CPU and mobo just 2 years ago.

...and sadly- NEWEGG is letting vendors sell older gen cards like the 1660 & 2060 for  $700 and higher.

It is insane & a shame

If you are also working from home or your job allows for you to be on the web during the day, you can also check Best Buy monday-friday from 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM Pacific Time for their restocks. You'll definitely have to be quick but BB is how I got my founder's edition 3090. Or if your moral compass allows it, buy a bot and let it do the work for you.

Microcenter seems to be the best solution, but odds are not good one is local to you.

Newegg shuffle has intense demand, I have not once been selected and I just blanket checkbox all the GPUs these days. But at least it's a fair chance.

Best Buy restocks the website in the morning hours usually right on the hour. I've noticed it most frequently around 10am and 11am Mon-Thurs CDT. Usually Tuesday is the best day for it. Not seen it restocked on a Friday.

Third party OEM's are selling prebuilts... like Puget Systems. But if you don't need a 5000-series CPU then it's still a really expensive work around. But it's a better value than buying a GPU outright though, IMO.

One more thing, there is a community at NowInStock that keeps track of 3080 and 3090 stock. They have a chat function and usually when there is a restock someone will post in the chat immediately to help others. They are generally a good helpful crowd.

Yeah...  😣

I was so hoping they would be in the shuffle too.  It's really frustrating how large online markets like Amazon and Newegg allow third party sellers to scalp.

I'll try that out, but I'm not sure how anyone can compete with a bot.  Wouldn't selecting a card and inputting address and billing info take far too long?

Just create an account that has your payment and address info already entered. Then all you have to do is checkout and maybe confirm the security info for your CC. I went a step further and just used PayPal with a trusted device since it auto-logs in when checking out. It has my preferred payment method saved and my mailing address saved as well. So you just confirm the purchase.

One more question about Best Buy if you feel like answering, did you use a bot to get your card?  I just want to know if it's humanly possible to beat them manually or if I shouldn't bother.

No, I did it with my fingers and over a week of refreshing web pages, I am against the use of bots personally and I wish they would be made illegal if I'm honest. At this point in time though I sort of understand someone wanting to use one so long as they are only trying to get one card for themselves because I am sick and tired of seeing miners and even huge companies buying boat loads of cards just to abuse them in a farm. I checked the bestbuy site (as well as Newegg) every hour on the hour from morning until noon until I managed to get one in my cart and check out. I got mine on Friday October 9th, so they do restock certain GPUs on Fridays. Mine was the FE 3090 specifically and they restocked 3080s that day as well.

Well that Best Buy experience was crushing...  Even if they have the "best anti-bot measures" it doesn't matter if there are thousands upon thousands of people hammering the server.  I don't see how anyone that doesn't have nigh inhuman reflexes and a plethora of time to camp their page has even a snowball's chance in hell.  This wouldn't be half as frustrating if I knew that the people getting the cards weren't assembling giant mining specific rigs or scalping them and just needed them to have a functioning PC.  Sorry for venting, I just want to use my PC again and this is such a frustrating experience.

Yeah the drop today was pretty abysmal at best buy. I was trying to get an FE 3080 for my friend so he can cancel his EVGA step-up request but it was a failure even though I saw the "add to cart" button. Also tried to snag an Xbox series x for my stepdad but that didn't even get restocked at all like it was supposed to. I guess next week is another opportunity. It's always possible we will see some slightly larger drops since the suez canal halted/delayed a lot of shipments so we could possibly get a bit of a longer lasting drop once they all get into port and unload.

All kidding aside....I'm hoping that the supply increases over the next few months, but it does seem doubtful.

All kidding aside....I'm hoping that the supply increases over the next few months, but it does seem doubtful.

As for the prices, it's mostly the OEM's charging them. Anything from ASUS has a huge markup on it even above other brands of the same cards... for both Radeon and NVIDIA.
