I thought F@H just needed a single core... I fired up my 1080 Ti  and it's using a whopping 60-70% of my 4790K to fold. Are other 1080 Ti folders getting this as well? At this point I just disabled the CPU slot so the GPU can run full out.

    What Driver?
What is the TPF showing and what Project Number are you running?
Are you Folding on your CPU?
Seeing 9,303 on your Status Page shows you might be. Kougar
60%-80% is normal if Folding on your CPU, how many Threads did you set you Client Tool to use? 6 Maybe?
Most of us stopped Folding on the CPU.

It will abuse your cores I know that for a fact.  I only have dual 1080's but at any given time each instance of gpu folding is using 10% of my E5-2670 at peak, averages at around 6-7% each http://imgur.com/ATZKjRU .  There was an anandtech forum post I saw https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/getting-the-most-ppd-out-of-your-hardware-for-f-h.2491811/ it's a little on the old side, but it has some fantastic information on how your CPU is actually needed to get the most potential out of your GPU.

Disabling CPU folding is for the best sadly, as the sheer amount of power used vs returns is not worth it.  But we do need more info as bcavnaugh said.

Doesn't sound normal at all if that's the only hardware that's folding, unless you're only running 2 cores on the cpu with no HT.

on a 4 core 8 thread CPU that is not normal. at this point i would be more interested in looking at the task manager and verify which task is eating up the CPU.

Why would it not be normal? OP had CPU folding too, thus high CPU usage..............unless Folding has changed on the CPU side usage?

Oh, i missed that detail... the cpu slot must not have been properly setup as it sounds like it was only using 4 of the 8 available threads, or else it should have been 100%

I'm folding on my Ryzen 7 and FTW3, the CPU client is using 15 threads and they're pegged at 100%. The last thread is for the GPU, I haven't check it's load but I can when I get home tonight.

You might want to change your CPU Client to use 14 12 or 10 Threads 15 13 9 and so on can cause issues.

I saw that mentioned when I was researching folding on Ryzen but they were all post from around launch time. I've been running it like this for over a week with no issues so far *knocks on wood*.

Okay, I found the problem. The problem was in fact Task Manager itself. It is showing the wrong CPU utilization (and cpu speed) for everything. Suddenly, 70% usage for FAH turns into 12.5% Nice to know Windows is still Windows

Process Explorer has the correct data. Apparently this is not an unheard of issue, but I haven't been able to figure out why or how to fix the borked Task Manager. http://imgur.com/8zp6mVC CPU speed was confirmed to be 4.2Ghz via various other apps.

I posted about this a few months back about Windows 10 incorrect CPU usage.
I use Core Temp to show the real usage.
Aida 64 Extreme and Core Temp show the same % usage of the CPU.
Window 7 and 8.1 are close but are also off a little but no where as bad as Windows 10.

Did you ever find a cause? This is more than just "off", it's completely flat out wrong as task manager constantly reports the CPU utilization figure to be 3-4x what it really is. Something in the OS is really borked but I haven't been able to sort it out.

Task Manager apparently shows utilization compared to a SINGLE CORE of your CPU, even when you have a multi-core CPU.
Yet another old issue (abet a MINOR one) that Mickey$loth has never cared enough about to fix.

They DO get it right (except for their MIShandling of "hyperthreaded" CPUs as if those were seperate full CPUs) in their performance manager.

Now that vorsholk has stopped his abuse, I'm returning to folding.
I no longer MOO due to abuses by certain "whales" in the Gridcoin community - so I now work the Distributed.net project directly again.

Funny, I've never seen this come up. I look at task manager all the time and the clock speed is the only annoyance I've noticed. I think it doesn't take into account the base clock changes for RAM. I also eject to view all cores on a separate graph. You can always try process explorer (a much better program by far).
