Exnetic
Just want to know What cpu are OC able with SR3 dark? Not just the 3175x?  Is there new intel cpus that will come that will be OC able more cores for less money?

W-3175X is the only unlocked CPU for it at the moment.

Yes, we talk about a premium platform for people who can afford the best hardware...
but it would be nice if people could OC some models worth 1500-1900$ with 14-18 cores.
Out of box without OC they are 10-15% faster in single thee

The Intel Ark page does not even have a compatible products page for the rest of the C62x series chipsets so perhaps they are the same for all of them?  I remember a comment from EVGA here that the ones listed in their support page are ones they had on-hand to test so at the very least all of those CPUs will work.  Even with the board discounted to 1000 I'd still go for 3175x for it otherwise may as well get one of the less expensive locked cpu oriented ones from asus, supermicro or gigabyte imo they are much cheaper.

Ah here was the post on the first page https://forums.evga.com/FindPost/3018632

As for the phanteks block not really it works fine as far as a waterblock goes but if it is better or worse I have no idea, it seems most people have 1 block and not gotten any others lol.  The cooling fins cover the whole cpu but they are very big so I imagine a block with finer fins would cool much better like my optimus foundation.

Yeah, Intel's been like that for some time now as far as available product literature goes (e.g., VROC is a very good example of the disconnects that existed between motherboard manufacturers marketing depts. and Intel spec'd info), so there's that; and EVGA does spell out which CPUs have been tested with the SR-3 on its compatible products pages. As for going with a less expensive board if not opting for the W-3175x, I understand where you're coming from; but heck, one could also opt for a Threadripper (and TR compatible motherboard), and build what would obviously be a much better performing setup (which I might do next year anyway).

On the question of EKWB cpu water block compatibility, I did get a response back fro EKWB this morning, but in grand EKWB fashion, they simply reiterated what I more or less what I pointed out in my original query to them:

thank you for contacting us.
The block is compatible with these motherboards - https://www.ekwb.com/configurator/waterblock/3831109814550

I wouldn't be surprised if they consider their block incompatible simply because there's nowhere on the SR-3 that you can hook up the block's blinky rgb light connector to it ;^) .

A couple of quick questions for those who've experienced this board:
  1. I'm assuming a CPU carrier like the one TE AMP sells isn't needed when using a water block like the one Phanteks offers (but please correct me if I'm wrong);
  2. Could use a recommendation for a torque driver (one was mentioned earlier on, but the link for it is missing now).
TIA!

You don't absolutely need to use a carrier, but the one that came with my Dominus fits on my Phanteks block, it just makes it less scary to take the CPU out since the block is so big it covers the whole mounting mechanism.  When I had the Gigabyte board I flipped the board upside down to take the CPU out just because it's kinda scary lol.

The size required is T-30

Thanks for those!

Yeah, strange, the SR-3 doesn't ship with a carrier, but I went ahead and ordered a few from TE Connectivity, just in case. Also, I probably have a T-30 somewhere, but I was more interested in recommendations for a specific torque screwdriver, if you or someone else had one. Not even sure I really need one, but the spec (PDF) says 12 in/lbs for those screws; and as finicky as far as ram goes that's been reported on that socket, figured it might not be a bad idea to simply adhere to the spec.

The screws bottom out on the mounting mechanism so I just screwed them all the way in I doubt it makes a big difference just don't go too crazy so you can't unscrew them again.

Can someone confirm whether the U.2 ports (U1 & U2) can be combined to form a RAID-0 setup with 2x U.2 SSDs? Also, the manual says that the U1 & U2 ports share 8x PCI-E lanes with PE3 (3rd PCI-E slot). I have a PCI-E SSD (Intel Optane 905P) on PCI-E so if I get 2x U.2 SSDs in U1 & U2 and put them in RAID-0, they will be at full capacity with 8x PCI-E lanes correct since the Intel Optane SSD takes up only 4x PCI-E lanes? @EVGA_JacobF

Okay, got the answer from the Wendell from level1techs and level1linux. All seems okay, going to order I think.

I recommend using a carrier even if you have to pay for one. The carrier holds the cpu in place in the socket and to the waterblock or air cooler. I didn't use a carrier with a waterblock and when removing the cpu it messed up some of the pins of a gigabtye board I have. Out of all the board makers only ASUS includes a carrier. The carrier prevents the cpu from going sideways in the socket and that's when damage could easily happen.

Me too that's where the bulk of my post history came from.. Sadly the SR3 dark was late to the party and I picked up the Gigabtye board instead.

I have my SR-3 Dark board and block waiting for a build. Haven't been able to find a decent used w3175x. Anyone that sees one let me know.

I have been thinking of replacing my ASUS motherboard. One of the audio ports seem to be fried and I want to use speakers plus a buttkicker.

is there any list of 100% compatible waterblocks for this board?
I found some cheap models:
Barrow SKYLAKE-E-LGA3647 Server Block- Acrylic Barrow SKU LTYK-LGA3647-AC - $59.99
BYKSKI CPU-SKYLAKE-E-V3 - $44

The Phanteks and Bitspower ones both work fine, I don't think I've tried my watercool one on it though so can't say for certain.
