Reports are flooding the web regarding Intel's total lack of reference to their upcoming Comet Lake family of CPUs, which will be branded under the Intel core 10000 series. As reports would have it, motherboard makers had stock of LGA 1200 motherboards ready to showcase at CES, but were told to pull them out in what is equivalent to a logistical "last minute". It seems that both Intel's lack of commitment to Comet Lake on its CES presentation and absence of ecosystem showcase at this year's CES might have something to do with, well, close to shame on Intel's parts.

Comet Lake will increase the maximum core count for their desktop CPUs up to 10 cores and 20 logical threads. But being built on the same 14 nm process as previous Intel generations since Skylake, there isn't much that can be done to offset increased power consumption. This is why industry sources are claiming Intel decided to skip Comet Lake at this CES - a difficulty to rein in the processors' power consumption in time for the event, with power consumption hitting 300 W. And with Intel's Core i9 10900K being configured with a PL2 (Power Level 2) of 250 W, a maximum 300 W under full load seems more than plausible.

In my opinion Intel should have at least announced more info on the new CPUs whether they are fully ready or not. In my opinion this just makes Intel look like they are falling further behind AMD.

Interesting that they had a last min change .... sounds more like a Code issue that hardware ... or they would have known months ago

I really never thought I'd see the day where Intel dropped the ball this badly. Most of my adult life they've been king of the mountaintop with their CPUs ever since they beat the Athlon x2...

Probably best to scrap the whole thing, they can ride it out with the 9900K.

While I don't really see the point in Comet Lake, providing an incremental improvement on a new platform, the last thing Intel wants to do right now is showcase or rush to market a crappy product.

Though this does give some food for thought if they are really planning a major power boost on the comet lake chips.

Should be a pretty powerful chip and the most powerful gaming chip on the market.  I've had my 9900K up over 200W without any overclock, so it's pretty easy to see how they would be pushing 300W with 25% more cores and some higher clocks.  Maybe they are trying to get their yields and bins dialed in so they can hit their target clocks with slightly lower voltages and power draw.

If true it will basically be a marketing stunt, like the 56 core Xeon currently. It technically exist so Intel can bench it against 64 core Rome for marketing reasons but Intel isn't actually selling it to anyone. This will be much like the 28 Core W-3175, except in even lower volume. Threadripper 4000 will launch early 2021 and from what my friend just told me this past week it will be damn FAST! Single core cinebench R20 will be over 550... on a 32 core CPU. If true Intel will probably release this Q4 so that the Ryzen 4000 16 core doesn't clobber their entire HEDT lineup.... speculation on my part. I honestly doubt this is true though, I have heard nothing at all about it.
