Intel's 2021 Alder Lake launch will reportedly be high-end-only | OC3D News (overclock3d.net)

Intel's 12th Generation Alder Lake processors are due to launch later this year, delivering to consumers their first 10nm mainstream desktop processor from Intel, the world's first mainline hybrid architecture x86 processor and one of the world's first CPU platforms to support PCIe 5.0 connectivity and DDR5 memory.

Given Alder Lake's impressive feature set, Intel is keen to launch their 12th Generation CPUs as soon as possible, aiming to recapture their position as the leader of the x86 CPU market and grant the company technological leadership over AMD.

Igor's Lab has reported that Intel plans to rush its Alder Lake platform to market, launching their 12th Generation CPU platform exclusively with enthusiast-class products. Only K and KF series processors will allegedly be launched in 2021, and Z690 will be the only motherboard platform available for the company's LGA1700 CPU socket.

If Igor's Lab is to be believed, Intel's Non-K 12th Generation Alder Lake processors will be launched later at CES 2022 alongside the company's lower-end H670, B660 and H610 chipset motherboards. If correct, this means that Intel will be launching Alder Lake with headline products in limited quantities, reserving the company's more mass-market Alder Lake products until 2022.

Intel is rumoured to be launching Alder Lake desktop processors between October 25th and November 19th, acting as a major step forward to Intel within the desktop market by utilising two new x86 CPU architectures, the company's new Intel 7 process technology, and by offering consumers more processing cores than any of the company's prior mainstream desktop processor.

Intel's "Intel 7" process technology is the company's new name for their 10nm Enhanced SuperFin node, which is said to offer a 10-15% increase in performance per watt over the company's 10nm SuperFin node. 10nm SuperFin was used to create Intel's Tiger Lake processors. With the company's new Intel 7 process technology and enhanced Golden Cove and Gracemont x86 CPU cores, Alder Lake should deliver significant improvements over today's 14nm Rocket Lake S processors. How Alder Lake will compare with AMD's competing products remains to be seen.

It will be interesting to see how the new CPUs will compare to AMD CPUs.

If you believe the press reports, several manufacturers have indicated they are releasing DDR5 "soon."
