Intel is set to become the world's largest semiconductor supplier of 2019, according to the research from IC Insights. Intel held a crown for the largest semiconductor supplier since 1992, until 2018 when Samsung overtook it because of the booming DRAM business driven by high demand and not enough supply. Being Samsung's main business, any DRAM price/demand fluctuation was having a massive impact on its business. Due to high demand and high pricing, Samsung saw a massive revenue jump which resulted in a new king of the world's largest semiconductor supplier.

However, having seen predictions for a fall of 34% for this year, the decrease in demand will result in lower revenue for all DRAM market suppliers. SK Hynix, Micron and Samsung are expecting their revenues to decline around 29% on a year-over-year basis given the situation. This is resulting in lower revenue for Samsung than Intel has, and makes Intel the king of semiconductors once more. Intel's revenue is expected to reach around 70 billion USD, which is similar to last year's numbers.

The competition between Intel and Samsung will continue to increase in my opinion if consumer demands increase.

It will be interesting to see what happens in 2020 since a lot of things are in the works to really change computers. Wifi 6 should start to show up in hardware devices, 8K should start to become the go to for televisions, next generation consoles should be released and the war between AMD and Intel should heat up as Intel jumps into the GPU market. We should also start to see PCI-E 4.0 and 5.0 sometime in 2020 as well as USB 4.0. Lots of things are going to happen to make people think about new devices that could change the demand and who is in the lead by the end of 2020.

Not sure Intel will be back on top of anything soon , if they don't get something turned around for them.

Intel has a very rough 2 years ahead of it but come late 2021 early 2022 if things go as planned they are definitely coming back swinging hard. AMD better not get complacent and be ready.

Really I wouldn't say that. Intel is still going to be the top provider of CPU's in the world. They also have the SSD market, Chipset, GPU, Wireless and a lot of other categories.

Misdirection, when you don't like losing the crown for CPU products, you start talking about the crown for manufacturing capacity. These guys are taking cues from politicians. Move the goalposts.

While you are correct, those other markets are low margin compared to the CPU market. SSD's for example is a very low margin market, Intel has tons of other players to compete with. On the CPU side for the most part they just have AMD, Intel literally a few years ago was selling a 10 core 6950x for $1700+ dollars that cost them much less than $100 to produce (big benefit of having you own fab) and the margins on Xeon $$$$$$$ ....they were driving the gravy train with biscuit wheels.

Intel in all honesty will be fine, they are very good at what they do. They just need to get their fab's to execute, having your own fab's is a blessing when they are producing leading nodes and executing properly but a major hindrance when they are not. GloFlo failed at going 7nm for AMD which was the original plan but AMD being fabless was just able to switch to TSMC, rumor is they are going to have Samsung start producing some stuff on their fab too, AMD being fabless has the opportunity to switch if one fails to execute which recently just happened. If AMD still owned Gloflo then AMD would be still stuck on 14nm with Intel and we all know Intel's 14nm is a hell of a lot better than Gloflo's 14/12nm process.
