Intel has seemingly partnered with Samsung, one of the largest manufacturers of Integrated Circuits, in order to help reduce the CPU shortage currently affecting the PC market. It is the first time ever that Intel turned to Samsung for it's CPU manufacturing given that, historically, Intel's Client Computing Group (CCG) has always relied on Intel's internal fab to manufacture all of its components. But as resources in those fabs became constrained, Intel CCG started looking at other resources, such as TSMC, to manufacture the chipsets used in Intel-based motherboards.

According to the source, Samsung will begin mass production of 14 nm Intel CPUs in the fourth quarter of 2020, which means that Intel still will not feel any relief from the off-loaded manufacturing, and will have to put up with it for a while longer. Also, according to the source, Intel's 14 nm manufacturing shortage has been worse than reported, which this partnership with Samsung further hints towards.

Personally I think Intel is making a mistake here. Intel should also ask Samsung for assistance with 10nm as well.

Next year 2020?! That hints 14nm Intel Chips will still be around for awhile after that..... not sure if that is good news to anyone. Maybe hints at 10nm woes still hammering Intel as well?

As long as your popular enough, you can get away with anything.

Global foundries paid Samsung for their 14nm process that Ryzen first gen was built on because they struggled with their own. Sad its come to this but Intel could do the same and pay for Samsung 7nm process(assuming Samsung would sell it).

Pay for the process but make it in Intel's own Fabs, of course Intel is very prideful and that would be admitting process technology defeat. Interestingly and probably unrelated, rumor is Intel is postponing some planned New Fab construction indefinitely and 10nm is now only be produced at 2 facilities. All others are either back to 14nm or working on 7nm.  Could of course just be crap rumors :-)

Never heard of that site so I'll take what I just read with a grain of salt, or spoonful for that matter.  Maybe intel will skip 10nm and jump to 7nm.  Who knows as time will tell.

Lots of hardware is still made on 14nm and smaller stuff is slowly being made.

The AMD Zen 3000 lineup are mostly SRAM which is less problematic.

Longer term the costs are high and the results are likely to be keeping the equipment in the lab a while longer.
